Macbook Air and its competitors
So I want to buy a lightweight and portable netbook for a trip I have coming up. Anyone have experience with a macbook air? What are some of its competitors? If I do get a macbook air it would be used, and if I could get a good price on it. I want to keep cost down as much as possible in case it gets stolen or broken I won't give a fuck.

I don't want to get a full sized laptop. I will be biking a lot, and I want to be able to carry a netbook in a back pack. So it has to be light and compact.

I [still] have the original Macbook Air, and it is great.
Lightweight, fast, all the features you would need. Great screen. Lots of memory. If a CD drive is something you would need, that can still be achieved with minimal inconvenience. Your need for stuff like that will decrease over time, so it's not a huge deal. I will get the new one as soon as mine dies, without even having "test driven" it. Kind of like how i did from E46 to E92

if you want light/compact/cheap this sounds like the best route
i have a alienware m11x laptop. it's like 11.3 inches or something but weighs 5 pounds, so a little bulky. i bought the base model duo with only bluetooth upgrade and made a few upgrades myself to the hdd and ram. so far i'm still satisfied with it. base model only cost $599. and i'm sure if you look around you can find another $50 off coupon from dell. i have to admit, the processor is the obvious weak link here, but if you're not looking to do heavy gaming/processing it will work great. |

i just go the macbook air not too long ago, and its freaking awesome! its so light and thin, so easy to carry anywhere.
you can buy it from an apple store and try it out for a full 14 days and return it if youre not satisfied with it, with no restocking fees or anything. you wont regret getting one though |
