OK, the floor repairs and remodeling are DONE!!!

Hey guys!

As you may remember, about 3 weeks ago we discovered that our new washing machine (located in the kitchen) has slowly been leaking water, which damaged the floor as well as the ceiling in the basement.

We made an insurance claim and adding some funds to it, replaced the pergo floor in the great room area with a nice Brazilian Cherry hardwood. :P My wife, being the "handy person" in our marriage, decided while the house was torn up anyway, to sand and paint the kitchen cabinets white.

I added some photos to the "Before and After" web page I did which details our little "fixer upper" project located here:

http://www.rolexreferencepage.com/house.htm

Here's a couple of photos - a before and after shot of the living room:

BEFORE:

AFTER - with the new hardwood floor:

In this before shot, you can see the old floor, as well as what the kitchen cabinets looked like before my wife went at 'em.

AFTER - with the new floor and painted cabinets:

We're pretty happy with the results. Like?

Yup. Looks really good. I don't like the laminate. It always feels like plastic to me. Big fan of dark hardwood.

i didnt like the old setup how there were different styled wood for the cabinets and flooring...

new flooring is great... from the pictures they have that red-darkbrown hue in them... goes well with the walls. and the cabinets painted white... well white matches with everything.

wonder how black dining table and black marble counter top would look... maybe too cold.

I love the new wood! On the other hand I don't like the white cabinets. I really like to cook and spend a lot of time in the kitchen and white in a kitchen to me SCREAMS dirtiness. You'll be seeing fingerprints and all kinds of junk in no time, I hope you don't have any young kids . IMO with the redish brown floor color and deep red wall I would have went with a black or a really dark color or changed the cabinets out during the demo for a nice deep wood to match the floors. Then I would go with a midnight style granite that looks deep navy blue/black. Overall, I like it.

Edit: I was looking at the pics again haha and I totally forgot the key elements. Stainless Steel Appliances and sink! haha That would set the room off for sure.

Do something with the wires behind the couch and television set. Other than that, nice look.

LOL! If you don't like white because it shows fingerprints, then why go stainless??

Was there an issue with the new washer or was it a loose hose or something?

I had the ice/water dispenser on my fridge wack out and do the same thing to my kitchen floor and basement. It's kind of a sick feeling when you come home and hear running water.

Anyways, I called GE (fridge mfg) to bitch and their insurance ended up paying for a new floor. It seems that the freezer door had defective insulation which caused condensation on the icemaker electronics and caused the thing to spit water all over the place.

Bottom line, I had no idea the appliance mfg would insure against this sort of damage and avoided a claim on my homeowners.
