I Think I'm Going To Move To Bangkok, Thailand...
i REALLY like it there. right now i know enough thai where i can get around and if i studied/lived there for 1-2 years, i will be able to speak fluently. being korean, for me its really easy to learn thai as the sounds are somewhat similar.
this isn't just a thought; after coming back from my trip, ive been seriously thinking about my future, what im gonna do, where i want to be, how i wanna live, etc. so in a nutshell here is the main breakdown. my mom is retiring in 5 years and she has no family in the US as all her sisters and mom are in korea. my dad is in korea for like 5 months at a time for business and comes back home for like a month before he goes back again. after my mom retires she told me and my bro she going to live in korea and spend time with her mom (now 72) as she doesn't get to visit her often and spend time with her sisters. both my mom and dad have apartments in korea. so im assuming once my mom moves to korea, my dad really has no reason to come back to the states and visit either so he will be there doing his business; he of course my parents will visit but very rarely . my mom and dad have 2 places here in the states for me and my bro. my bro will def stay in the US graduate college, get a job, marry, kids, etc and will be in the states all his life. for me after i graduate college in a year, im really thinking about moving to thailand buying a bus for $155k and earning $6k a month which is roughly $72k a year which is what my friends dad does. by bus i mean the ones that bring people from bangkok to the north and south parts of thailand, similar to greyhound here in the states. this is my best friend ive known for 10+ years and both our families are really close. my friends dad's sister owns 35+ buses so you can imagine how much she making but she lived in thailand all her life unlike my friends dad who lived in the US for about 25 years and moved back to his home country. she lives in a huge house and has a ton of land she grows rice on and everynight she has fresh rice cooked from her own land. remember to put things into perspective whatever it costs here in the US multiply by 2 and you got thai prices after tax, etc. i told my friend the only thing not cheap in bkk was fast food. a bigmac sandwich only here costs $2-3 while there it is $1.50 and bigmac set here is like $4-5 while there it is $2.50 . anyway my friends dad says if i buy a bus there, i have his mechanic, etc and all he really does is go online and check how much he made. doesn't go to the office or anything. stays home, goes out, and at the end of the day checks online how much he made. he collects his social security, benefits, etc from the states too along with just 1 bus he lives very well and has a e320 cdi which for rough estimates cost double there than here. he also currently has a housing project which he bought 2 houses and put together and once finished will have 6 bedroom and 6 bath. he said i can live rent free anytime as well . along with that my friends place i stayed in is 4 floors each floor with 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, and 1 living room to share. really comftorable living there and now i can see why my friend never wants to come back to the US moving there after highschool with his dad. as a non thai citizen, i can't legally own the bus and everything would have to be under my friends dads name. and this is the one thing holding me back as i know money is the biggest thing that can ruin a friendship and family. he does treat me as family and more of a son as well but this side thought of something going wrong from money and ruining my relationship is on my mind. anyhow, if i do buy a bus and pay that off i can buy another and once paid off i can make $144k a year with 2 (as long as i make $100k a year minimum, everything else is a bonus). i can keep going but ill be satisified with 2. and for transportation, all i need is a scooter. yes a scooter is def the way of transportation with the heavy traffic, everyone on scooter weave in and out of traffic. and it is by far the funnest thing i ever did. so what would my life be like? i would be mainly living in bkk in a nice apartment near my friend in bangkok. i would travel to korea to see my parents and help my dads business and i would travel back to NY to see my brother and also just go back and visit. i would travel alot but i love that idea of having a house in 3 countries and going back and forth. my parents will come visit me sometime as well in bkk as the flight from korea to bkk is only about 6 hours. for $100-150k us i can buy a nice apartment in bkk in a nice area lat phrao and be hitting up RCA everynight like i did during my visit . and its not even about taking a shortcut in life. life is too short to be worrying about making as much as you can. ill be very happy with this life traveling making $100k minimum a year. i got 2 semesters left of college and will have to see where my life is at but what do you guys think of the idea?

A bus... as in those random buses with all the luggage on top like you see in the movies?
Interesting. I guess if you've got it all figured out, do it. I'm naitive to this country, so I don't think I'd ever do somthing like that, but if it'll be a good life for you and you'll get to see your family with less air travel (at least to Korea) then go for it. |

^ you been to thailand before? are you speaking of california wow?
guys, guys, guys.... me and chelsea are atm not together anymore. to keep a long story short, after i came back we had an argument, she got a few things from my place, and left. i went to the gym yesterday saw her and it was awkward as i know she keeps looking and feels sad as i do the same. but after our argument, we haven't said a word to eachother... if she can't forgive me once for making a mistake awhile i was abroad then i honestly don't have anything else to say.

i know man i told her the excuse you told me at first and she knew right away i was bsin so i just maned up and told her the truth and that was it. maybe give it time and she will come back...
speaking of yo jay, the thai pharmacies are insane. no perscription needed and you can get almost anything from painkillers to accutane. these aren't blackmarket pharmacies either but legit ones in malls and stuff. i actually brought back a bottle of latisse for a friend and a box of accutane for another. each cost me roughly $15.

Even if she comes back she will never be able to trust you, she will be super clingy and watching your every move. Let it go and move on, trust me.
As far as BBK, sounds like a good thing for you, do it man.

That sucks. Work on the bsing skills. Time to move on and find a new one. Preferably one at that gym. Then they'll both screw you.
There are a lot of countries you dont need prescriptions for anything. Such as mexico lol. Should have brought back some opiates and mood stabilizers. Always fun. |

yea i tried to bs it but at the end i knew she didn't believe me, it bangkok for christ sake and i just ended up telling her the truth. when we were arguing, i brought up if she ever cheated on me while i was away and from the way she was yelling at me and just overall attitude seems like she didn't...
and true that for mexico and cuba as well. fucking im going through alcohol withdrawl right now. in 39 days i spent roughly $4k and opened 40 bottles of 1L black label. and on my last night my flight left at 5.45 am and i went to the club and my friend opened me a blue label. club closed at 2 and i went to eat, back home, took a shower, and got to the airport by 4am. the plane was all boarded and the security guys had to rush me on there, didn't know why as the flight leaves at 5.45 and i was fucking drunk and passed out on the plane haha.

Sounds like if you want the life of drugs, alcohol and hookers then you should do it.
Not that Thailand couldn't offer other things but it sounds like that's your reason for liking the place. You're young and just getting out of college... don't ask us old guys what to do... we already know you won't listen and you'll just do it your own way. That's part of getting out of the nest... figuring out how to fuck things up on your own and eventually fix them. Is it important for you to have a fulfilling career? Or do you just want to collect a check? Do you value relationships? Or do you just want to bang different hookers? Just some of the questions you should ask yourself when making life altering decisions. |
