flying out to northern california =)
I'm flying out to northern California next week, the areas I will be staying in are Danville, San Francisco, Sacramento, and San Jose. I love eating out and trying new restaurants, so I was wondering if you guys can recommend some places for me to try out. I'm open-minded to any kinds of food
Also, any recommendations for fun places to go to would be nice Thanks again

Walnut Creek has some fun bars (not far from Danville) and great restaurants, probably some of the only decent bars in the area.
Steak Houses: Ruth's Chris (Walnut Creek) Flemings (Walnut Creek) Haps (Pleasanton) Izzys (San Ramon, a bit less expensive than the others, very good potatos) Sea Food: Scotts (Walnut Creek), I have been disappointed the last two times I have been there, but they have been around for a long time, and I have had some good meals there. Sushi: Sakura (San Ramon) Mexican: The Blue Agave Club (Pleasanton) on the fancy side of Mexican, huge Tequila selection. Casa Orozco (Dublin) About the price of Chevys, but awesome food. I eat there almost every week. The Blackhawk Grille (Danville) is typically good, a bit pricey, and I was disappointed the last time I went, the service was terrible. My brother had a good experience there since then so maybe we were just there on a bad night. The Prickly Pear (Danville, Blackhawk Plaza) good lunch place great sandwiches. There are others, good burger places in Downtown Danville. These are some of my favorites. |

If you can go to Lake Tahoe. It's a couple of hours away from the Bay. My friend has a house on the north shore. . one of the greatest (from what I can remember) 4 days I've ever had.

For San Francisco.
Try Swan Oyster Depot in San Francisco -- The seafood salad is one of the best you will ever have. Expensive, but worth it. Around California/Polk St. Caveat with this place, usually LONG waiting lines and you'll be sitting down at a bar type atmosphere. Very crowded but again, worth it. Another good one is Anchor Oyster Bar on Castro. Crowded too, but a more comfortable 'stay for a bit' atmosphere. For nightlife, depends on what you like, but Holy Cow is interesting for bar/dance floor place with not too many stuck-up folks. Zeitgeist is great if you're just with friends and looking to have a biergarten type atmosphere; the crowd there is generally older and more blue collar. Amantis in North Beach is OK -- decently priced and usually a good crowd. It's rather small and has a dance floor/space to mingle... but again, small. If you're looking for karaoke, then The Mint is a must. It's located next to the SF Mint, and right alongside Market St. San Francisco is very interesting, you'll find something you like though... each neighborhood has something unique to offer. If you're looking for more Asian influenced clubs/establishments, look around Geary St on the west side of the city/Richmond district area. If you're into more yuppie crowds, then try anything in North Beach area, or Russian Hill area. |

+1000 on Scoma's! great italian/seafood -1 on 5A5, overrated for SF: Steak - Bourbon Steak (in Westin St. Francis), House of Prime Rib, Boboquivari's Seafood - Scoma's, Swan Oyster, Hog Island Oyster Bar (in Ferry building) Other local fave's (that's easy to get a seat and access): Sear's Fine Foods - famous for their silver dollar pancakes Chloe's - homestyle breakfast/brunch place Golden Boy - great pizza Osha Thai on Geary - hole in the wall thai spot Great eastern restaurant - dim sum for night life, if you're into house/trance, ruby skye always have events over the weekends

If you're near/in downtown SJ, I highly recommend a great Vietnamese place called Vung Tau.

But yeah that place is pretty good (so are the other 10,000 viet places in the bay area). I'm surprised no one has offered to show her around when she's in town. That's a little unusual with all the e-humping on here. |

But I guess it depends on the food. I mean you can't cook everything they offer at a restaurant. So it's kinda nice to try out new things, especially since you're in the Bay Area. I imagine there aren't as many Viet places in Colorado. |
