Cars around $30k mark. Need suggestions.
A friend is looking at a new car (meaning no pre owned here, fellas). He wants an automatic, Bluetooth, navi, HID. Speed isn't really a priority. And of course reliability, and is somewhat moderate when it comes to maintenance.
I suggested TSX and the VW CC (I thought the CC looks cool and it's in the mid 20s...not sure about the reliability or how much it would be if priced with navi and Bluetooth). Any other suggestions would be welcomed. BTW he already ruled out the Nissans...Maxima and Altima, haha. |

Depends what he likes. I tested a few cars WRX, MS3 etc and I just bought a GTI yesterday for DD purpose. Best bang for the buck out there.

I also recommended a GTI because I saw another forum member picked up a nice one at around $25k. But the car is too 'teenage' looking for him now. I think he won't do another hatch, and with coupes...it would be something like a G37...which is obviously more than $30k. Whatever car he gets will most likely stay stock. |

I'm 27.....what is a teenager looking car?You drive what floats your boat. I used to own a car shop. I know what you mean but still if you get that car. I drove modded car and this one is staying stock not even a chip it's my daily ,work, grocery getter . Trust me I'm out of the scene I don't like aftermarket rims(not even BBS nothing) I'm an OEM+ guy nowadays. Honestly I can now say that there are no such thing as a kid car out there beside the Scion etc of this world. Yes I had nice cars as a kid but I couldn't afford them(yes I was making ridiculous payments, lost tons of money). What kid can go buy an STI and have enough money to invest or put aside or live in his own house? For that reason I don't consider an STI or EVO as kid cars. I had an A4 before it was boring. I'll take a car that as a boy racer image anyday before driving an A4. I test drove the CC it sucks. I can drive an A4 but as my only car no thanks. I test drove the CC and TDI because I wanted something nice and cheap as a daily I ended up with the GTI. We're car guys and it will never change.

370z would be my personal pick.
If you say "something like a G37" the 370Z is an obvious choice. It's a cheaper, yet more performance oriented G37. 6MT that can rev match for you, good looks, great handling.

if you want realiability, don't go VW.
I also suggest a simple WRX or Legacy turbo. Nothing wrong with TSX, but I think it's a waste of money, a glorified Accord, why not just get an Accord with leather? |

He used to have a WRX back in his freshman year. We used to love the rumble sound of the exhaust when he got an aftermarket catback, haha. Edit: The only gripe I have with Acura is that what's up with the switch blade key! Even the cheaper cars like Kia is on the push start now. Last edited by wj4; 11-18-2010 at 11:30 PM.. |

There are only 2 options on that car: V6 and Navi. I would say TSX is the best choice since bluetooth, leather, HIDs, iPod all come standard. I got mine for 27k so if you know how to negotiate, I'd say this is the car he's looking for.

Well, if he wanted to go $30k and slightly used, there would be a lot of options. Even the new G25's from infiniti start around 30k. And when you take hatchback out of the mix it makes it hard as well, since many of the really good and affordable cars are hatchbacks.
That being said, there are a few options, but not terribly luxurious: BMW 128i (with only bluetooth could probably be had for about $30k) Subaru WRX sedan or hatchback (~30k) Chevy Cruze (starts below 20k) Ford Fusion sport (starts around 26.5k) Hyundai Sonanta (mentioned earlier, 27k) Subaru Legacy (though I am not a big fan of the newest body style) Accord, Civic, Corolla, etc.

The new GTI is definitely not immature looking. It's the most mature spirited car on the market in that price range. It has great usability and pretty good mileage. I think it's a perfect car for a mid-20s guy.
Used G37s can be found for 30k no problem btw. If he's looking for a mature car he should check that out, or a used C350, or hell a used 328i or high mileage 335i. Has he ruled out the new Sonata?

BTW is the price you got of 27k out the door? I do personally want to drive the GTI myself for kicks as well. Has VW gotten more reliable over the recent years? Last edited by wj4; 11-19-2010 at 08:43 AM.. |
