Hey guys
sorry for the long text, I'll put a tl;dr at the end so as some of you know, I live in Lebanon and Montreal but spend a greater part of my time in Lebanon. Now due to political BS, they decided to enforce speed limits in the form of cops with radars and speed cameras. that's great and dandy and all, but as usual they try to act like an advanced country but fail and whether you are speeding 5km/h over the non even posted anywhere speed limit (yes, we have to guess what the speed limit is) or 100km/h over you get fined randomly (better known as, how expensive your car is) between 50$-3,000$. This is meant to scare people to stay within the speed limit (whatever it is) out of fear of being the unlucky person to get screwed with a 3,000$ fine. Epic Fail, I know... So how well do radar detectors work? and those license plate covers? what do you guys recommend? They are not illegal here because they don't know what they are yet. Any machines or things that can circumvate all this would be helpful. You might tell me "oh, but just slow down when you know where the cameras are" they have them set up every 3kms or so... I'll put up a picture of the cameras: tl;dr how can I get around being caught for speeding through one those cameras? *puts flame suit on* and for the people who just don't care: Last edited by Comet; 11-10-2010 at 05:30 AM.. |

Nice tits.
Get a radar detector with GPS and mark the cameras Find out of they are owned by the state or an outside company. The ones here in AZ were owned by an outside company and weren't "real" tickets, unless you've accumulated enough of them and were served by a police officer. So in reality, you never actually had to pay them. They have failed in every state they have been put up in and usually only last a couple years. Some of the plate covers work but they are usually covered under the obstructing your plate laws and come with some nice tickets. Post more tits. |

they are state owned but the old ones they had lasted 3 weeks because water "magically" got into them. they have the radar detectors every few kms so a GPS thing might not be effective.. I might as well just drive slow.. they also plan on using the guns. so I was looking into a Valentine? or is there something better? Which plate covers work? I'd like something clear that isn't noticeable even if I'm at a police checkpoint

LOL we have them here in Australia too. In fact our state government just keeps on adding more and more camera's around Sydney to help... and i quote... "reduce fatalities". :S I've seen some set on fire before, but now they use another camera to watch the main camera lol.
http://www.ghostplates.com/ might be of help. Or perhaps the James Bond style number plate switcher gadget?! LOL My mates use a number plate tilt: |

I like my V1 detector. If you dont need the GPS function that would be the one to get. Most places have been using guns forever. All of the plate covers are pretty noticeable IMHO. If youre not looking straight on, they look all distorted.

No good way, and that camera does not look like a speed camera BTW, just a regular camera. The speed cameras would have the plates on the pole directed towards the street then usually a much bigger camera (needs to be able to take night pictures and everything).
I have a V1 and it doesn't pick up the camera ones because they are set up to just catch like 15' of road and so the radar is not on at full power. It picks it up about 2 seconds before hitting the camera at normal speeds. If they have them every few miles, just slow down and then you don't have to worry about it. Sounds stupid to me, but then again I hate all speed cameras.

^^^ +1. that looks like a regular camera they use to monitor congestion and flow. speed cameras need a much bigger and faster camera at a more direct angle towards the traffic.

Lebanese FTMFW!!!
I heard about that on the news the other day. I also heard in the first day or week (can't remember) that it had recorded 3600 tickets. What city did they put it in again? I forgot. I don't think anyone that lives in the states understand what driving in Lebanon is like. I think there are a total of three traffic lights, in the country. Lanes are optional or you make your own. Speed limits, what? Your main goal when driving is not to get into an accident. Lol I can't wait to go next summer! Counting down the months! |

I know for most EZ-Pass and similar systems in the US, if you're going through the "express" lane where you just drive normally under a thing that scans for your EZ pass, if you're going about 80 mph or over, the camera can't react and take the picture fast enough to catch you when the computer notices you have no EZ-Pass. Maybe you just have to drive faster?

I say if it's a real camera, get one of these: http://www.phantomplate.com/photoshield.html
I saw a Scion that had one and I was in the next lane over about 5 feet back and I couldn't make out half of the plate. And here is an article where the police tested different methods and they said the PhotoShield worked and they wouldn't have been able to issue a ticket.

I highly doubt that's a speed camera.
Looks like.... 2 solar panels and a small camera on top... no speed measuring device. But I could be still wrong. |
