Feedback for good quality 27" monitor?

Don't need it as a TV. Anyone have recommendations on a decent 27" monitor? I can get a Dell for $1,000 but I've had bad experiences with them in the past. Lots of unkown brands out there I know nothing about (probably all made in the same place in China...like Dell?!) Need 2-3 of them so if anyone can recommend a brand to get or to stay away from that would help me out.

$1k? WTF?!?

I just got a 27" LCD for my bday and it was under $350 at costco. I bought a Samsung P2770.
I think this is the same one at Fry's http://www.frys.com/product/6271600.

I've played several games and they look great. Fallout looks awesome!
It also looks really good with high quality movies.
Super bright and easy to look at when you're surfing or working on documents.

Found it even cheaper on ebay, however, it's refurbished. Not sure that matters to you or not though.

Apple's 27" display. I love it in my parents 27" iMac Core i7( same panel as the standalone display).

If you're spending $1000, you might as well get Apple.

27" for $270

For $999 you should be getting a whole computer or a damn 50" TV.

Not IPS, not LED, and lame resolution( Apple's 27" display is 2560x1440). You get what you pay for.

I'm using one of these - Great bang for the buck, Asus has a 25.5" that is also highly rated. Neither of them will be as nice as a Dell Ultrasharp or Apple Cinema display but for 1/3rd the price it's a good value. If money is no object then by all means, you will not be disappointed.

Stay away from 16:9 aspect ratio, 1920x1200 resolution is the way to go if its just being used as a PC monitor, I'm assuming you aren't going to be using it for high end graphic design / video work or you probably wouldn't even be asking the question.

Overpayed stuff that only apple fanboys would buy. There isn't really much difference to the naked eye. Marginally brighter but for 3 times the price? No thanks

Actually the apple cinema display is the cheapest IPS at that size and resolution and there's a huge difference to the naked eye. If you don't work with color don't talk nonsense.

OP if you're gonna surf the web play games etc get a cheaper one but if you're doing color sensitive work then get an IPS display. They're all over $1000

Like you said, apple ripoff isn't needed if you're only playing games and surfing the web.

Sure do. And unless he professionally edits photos and videos, theres no point in it. I'm running the smaller LED version of that and it looks great. With blurays, web, whatever. My roommates running that exact one and it looks great as well. OPs just wasting his money unless hes seriously into what I said above.

You never saw a product that uses LG's IPS technology have you? Starting viewing these things at different angles, you will see a difference between non-IPS and IPS.

Like what everyone else mentioned earlier, IPS isn't needed if you're only playing games and surfing the web.

I've got Dell's 27" IPS. I've been very happy with it. Happy enough that I'll be picking up another one to replace my 24".
