you can get your life & health and variable annuity license in just a few weeks by just attending 40 hours worth of class and taking the state exam (at least in florida). then you can sell those products as an agent or work at a call center like i used to do. full time at $18.50 an hour plus commission. and most of the time i was sitting on my ass because i wasn't the one randomly dialing people and lying to make a sale. all i really did was finalize the sale after the person who actually made the sake transferred the call to me

Isn't that the truth. At least women can get breast implants to help their cause, whatever it may be

Helicopter pilot isn't actually a bad idea as long as you qualify/if it's something you are interested in doing. They used to advertise when I lived out in LA that they'd pay for your schooling, etc. because of demand. Not sure about GA though.

If you want to keep your feet on the ground you could also go to school to be an air traffic controller. You get paid well... but I think a very high percentage wash out due to stress.

What about going to a place like wyotech and getting certified to be a BMW mechanic? Auto mechanics get paid pretty well too.

I have a Class A license, but I am not exactly a truck driver. I do, however have lots of contact with truck drivers. Not a life I would recommend (in general) for a guy with a young family.

They guys who make money at it are never home, I knew one married couple with no kids who did very well, but their entire life was spent on the road, they had no time to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

Guys with local routes get to go home every night but these days they are spread really thin and they are not getting paid well. One 'Fast Freight' company I am very familiar with had a great group of drivers that all seemed pretty happy was recently sold to a big trucking company...I have not seen any of 'regular' drivers since, they were forced to take massive pay cuts and they just went and found new jobs.

Have you considered being a driver for Waste Management, yes a garbage man, and no I am not joking. I was recently talking to a manager from WM (in the Bay Area, CA) he was complaining that the drivers Union is so powerful that all the drivers are Guaranteed 8 hours/day (even if their route takes 3 in some cases) and with a little overtime many of them make six figures.

Also you could check out nursing, if you have the stomach for it. My wife went back to school to become a nurse after she got her business degree and spent a couple years in a cubicle. I can get more specific if you are interested.

I would agree with staying away from sales. I spend 12 years in sales management in the car business and now am a sales director for a national assisted living company. It gets very old and will make you jaded towards people. I've made great money (well over six figures) doing it, but it steals your soul and your free time.

then back out $1300 - $1700 for fuel per week (if you have a tail wind and stay out of the mountains), the truck payment, insurance, maint. don't forget losing half your stuff and paying alimony and child support after the divorce.

Then factor in no shower, or real bed for days on end, and sitting around some God forsaken town 2000 miles away from home on Christmas eve because you couldn't get a load that was headed the right way.

Or the truth.

You're biggest enemy inside that cab is your own mind. I've seen more than 1 couple I know get ruined cause the guy in the cab gets this random shit in his head and rages when he gets home.

If you are going to do it, make sure you have thick skin.
