Mercedes CL63 AMG revealed with new 5.5 V8

The 2011 CL63 AMG develops a peak output of 536 hp and maximum torque of 590 lb-ft. A maximum output (with the optional AMG Performance Package) of up to 563 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.

Despite an increase in horsepower and torque as compared to the naturally aspirated V8, AMG engineers have been able to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions considerably. With an estimated fuel savings of 27 percent, engine specialists consider this to be nothing less than a quantum leap. CO2 emissions have likewise been significantly reduced by approximately 30.

These improvements in efficiency and environmental protection have no negative effects on the car's performance. On the contrary, as the new AMG 5.5-liter V8 biturbo fully lives-up to AMG's brand commitment to "performance": the Mercedes-Benz CL63 AMG accelerates from zero to 60mph in 4.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 155 mph (electronically limited). With the AMG Performance package, the highperformance Coupé reaches the 60 mph mark in 4.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 186 mph (electronically limited).

At first I wasnt sure and thought the grille was too big and front was too aggressive for the car, but now I think its perfect. Looks like a beast and is perfect for this new engine. I dont like these new reverse lights. Also, never been a fan of the interior design but the piano black against white interior does look good.

Infact, forget the looks, look at those figures! This new engine is a beast and weighs only 5 lbs more than the M3 V8. So even though it is a big 5.5 TT engine it will not lead to the car being nose heavy and it puts out 536bhp in standard form. Imagine that engine in the new C63 AMG coupe. What a beast it will be.

Yeah, that's actually the first thing I noticed. But I'm guessing with maybe some smoked lenses they might look a lot better esp with darker color paint.

The black plastic around the 3 pointed star is meh, too. But I guess it's the best place to put the distronic radar.

Otherwise the car is close to perfect. Except I think they should use the SLS's DCT tranny and not the MCT.

I actually like that touch (maybe because my M Coupe has one too), but Mercedes has traditionally had an analog clock in the gauge cluster, so moving it out is a good thing.

Those exhaust finishers are awful, Mercedes must have poached a laid-off Pontiac designer.

As Red Bread said, Mercedes have traditionally always had analog clocks, it's part of their signature.

But even better, The CL has a Swiss-made IWC Ingenieur clock. IWC is one of the finest watchmakers out there.

The exhaust tips aren't much better or worse than these, imho. We'll have to see what the M5 will have but I'm guessing they'll look a lot like the CL's tips. It's the trend now.

The square exhaust tip is going to get old quick. Anything that sticks out or unique will soon be dated as next trend arrives. Love the classical circular tip much better.

Question how does it sounds? If it sounds anything like the new X5M/X6M......geez talk about bad sounding cars.

Finally, a good looking new Benz. After the C Coupe and the CLS, it's nice to see the CL is still gorgeous.

AMG is working on a + 700 HP version of the 5.5l V8 AMG, probably for the next S 65 AMG, as AMG said they would stop the power race, and no more do any V12, but the S 600 will stay, with a new engine having + 600 HP, and so destroy the 760i.
The C AMG is not going to get the 5.5l V8, it is going to get something much more dangerous: a 3.5l V6 Comprex. Very light, very powerful, very torquy and very efficient. M3 = BIG DANGER

I'm not a fanboy but danger of what?...The C63 only has a slushbox, ok suspension, ok chassis. The M3 is more of a track tool (well used to be before the E9X)..Been objective the C63 and IS-F can't be compared to an M3...I sometimes want to cancel E90 M3 ED project for one of those Nascar sounding slushbox cars but the M3 is in an other league. As much as I've always disliked Bmw for various reasons(beside M cars-135) not many AMG cars have done well....the C32-C36-C55 we're always behind the M3.So does the E55 against M5's etc. The only AMG car worth getting over an M at this point is the ML63 over the vaccum sounding tandem called X5-X6. Other than that AMG cars sounds well, looks good but that's about it(My guess is that they don't want to compete with ///M or RS since they don't offer any manual gearboxes in their cars).
