things to see/do in Hong Kong?

Going to be there and Macau for a week. Any ideas of what are the main things I should see or eat while there? I've been there a few times in the past, but always with my parents, and doing more of the stuff they want to do.

And maybe the HK members could chime in... I'll be there for new years, what are the hot spots to hit up during new years eve? Is there a good spot to watch fireworks? or a nice club for someone in their mid 20s to go to?

I'll be staying in the "western district" on Des Voeux Road. I know there's not much around the area, so I'll probably need to know which bus or cab to take to get around.

Thanks!

I don't get what you're referring to in 4. "Master piece"?

And yes, I'll be doing a lot of 1, 2, and 3 while there....

food is cheap and delicious, shopping is cheap and plentify, the citiscape is awesome. I love HK, it's probably one of my fav cities in the world.

Macau is a dump compared to Las Vegas, well at least it was the last time I went in 2002. But I hear they are building up a lot, with MGM, Winn, Venetian all building casino/hotels there, so it might have changed a lot. I do remember there were a lot of hot russian/eastern european hookers working the streets.

I definetely second the ideas Sharagon had.

- Victoria Peak

- For the ultimate scare, ride on the upper level of the bus out to Stanley Market.

- Visit the giant Buddha on Lantau.

- Spend one evening enjoying a drink at Felix (at the top of the Peninsula Hotel) while watching the light show.

besides that, just enjoy an amazing, beautiful, friendly, city that is best described as "NYC on speed".

I wasnt particularly impressed with HK girls. There were a few hotties, but far fewer than there were in Shenzhen right across the border.

Go check out Tribeca Night Club in Wanchai, my favourite spot to hang out, nice music and atmosphere, a lot of Chinese students who study in America, Canada, Britian, Austrailia and other young people hang out there, so i think you will feel right at home, very western "feel" club...

Edge night club in Central is pretty good too...

If you are lucky, got connections and have tons of cash, maybe you can get into Dragon-i Night Club in Lan Kwai Fong, most famous club in Hong Kong, i've only been there once because a friend of mine brought me in, you will most likely bump into celebs there

There is always Lan Kwai Fong, lots of nice bars owned by foreigners, mostly Canadian and British, and lots of pretty girls to hang out with, but drinks are bloody expensive....

As for Macau....just eat and GAMBLE!!

Hope this helps, at least for entertainment purposes, have fun! :rocks:

It's only during the season (started some time in October) and it goes for about 15-20 minutes. Awesome!
It's much better alive as there is coordinated music. And the lights at Kowloon and HKG Island are coordinated.
I stayes at Sheraton Kowloon in November with the Harbor view...best thing.

Also, you can take a fun and informative tour around HKG, it costs about HK$400 (US $55) and they take you all over the place and lunch included. But the nights are up to you. Remember, HKG never sleeps...

Definitely the most awesome place on Earth!

Are clubs in HK like they are here, where we have to pay some $20 cover, and most likely stand in a long line if it's really popping? What should I expect when I get there, and how are people normally dressed for clubs there (button shirt, slacks? or something more casual yet trendy?).

For the light show, which parts of town play the music in sync with the lights?

Thanks again for all your suggestions.... I'm writing all this down!
