11' 5.0 in the 9's.
That's a quick pony.
Forget about the 11’s and forget about the 10’s–Strictly Performance now has the official title of first 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 in the 9-second quarter-mile range. They accomplished this feat during a test and tune event at Houston Raceway Park where their newly aquired, fresh off the lot with paper tags white 2011 Mustang GT ran a 9.96 @ 137 MPH. How did they do it you might ask–well Strictly Performance swapped out the stock six-speed transmission for a C4 and than added a direct port nitrous system along with a custom prototype tune. A set of upper and lower control arms along with Bogart racing wheels kept this Mustang GT screaming down the drag strip. On the dyno the 5.0-liter V-8 engine threw down an insane 656 rear-wheel horsepower which comes courtesy of the nitrous. How about the stock block holding up under those conditions, not bad at all. edit: How do I remove this thumb thing below? Freaking Fbook? Last edited by gonzo; 06-25-2010 at 11:10 AM.. |

Interesting. I know it was only one run, but people made it sound like the rods were made of glass.... Maybe not...?
I'm thinking the bottom end should hold up under mild boost and the occasional reasonable spray, from what we've seen so far, but who knows.... Obviously on this occasion, the spray was a little on the liberal side, but I'm amazed it held up. |

I went to a funeral awhile back and saw people I have not seen in ions..so I joined to make them happy. Have not been back since and won't. It made my head hurt.
The few folks I looked up, HS or what not, looked like shit so it made me feel better. |

If the bottomend truly is stock they won't make many passes with that much juice.

Test drove the 5.0 and the '11 GT500 with a buddy, and came away more impressed with the 5.0. We tested the auto, and it flat-out puts you back in your seat .

So they increased the HP by at least 50% to achieve those results. If I attach solid rocket boosters to my M3 I am sure I can do the circuit in less than a minute.

The 5.0 was the reason I sold my 335i back in September 2009.
I then waited a month or so after it's release to make sure the early build cars didn't have any engine or tranny issues first. I then place my order about 2 weeks ago and expect my car in early September (just as the weather begins to cool off) planned perfectly. It's a he11 of a performance deal for the money, and since I haven't had a Mustang 5.0 since 1991, I felt the 2011 car and new 5.0 was the right time to get a Mustang again. Great how within 3 weeks of the 5.0 release tuners had them in the 11's Within 4-5 weeks they were running 10's Within 6-7 weeks the 9 car hit. Nearly 3 years later the M3 still isn't there, even with forced induction. And superchargers are now being released for the 5.0. 7 psi boost making 600-615 hp on all stock internals. Not too shabby folks for 8-9 weeks after the car was put on sale to the public. I'll personally take a s/c one at 6 psi tune good for 550-560 hp and be plenty happy with that. |
