Car accident, new safe car for my sister
My sister was just involved in a car accident. She was driving a Nissan Pathfinder when she was hit in the passenger door. The car flipped over and ended up on its roof. The airbags did not deploy but she was buckled up and thank heavens she walked away with just pulled muscles and a stiff neck. SUVs have the rollover problem, but I guess it was safe and big enough to keep her alive and injury free.
The car is totaled, so my parents entrusted me with the research of finding a really safe car for her. From what I've read so far, in addition to the safety features and the airbags the size and the weight of the car matter. Has anyone looked into the safe cars for any of their family members? Any recommendation? Any help is appreciated. |

My friend was t-boned in his S60 at an intersection... by a semi. The car somehow flipped and slid on its roof pretty far. He got out, took pictures of the accident, and called his insurance agent as if it was a regular fender bender. Those things are fucking tanks.

Crashed my mothers S60 a few years ago. No scratches on any of the passengers. Plus, they are super cheap these days with the new one coming and the fact that Volvo's dont really hold their values.
If she does not like the image (and i cannot blame her for that), get her a new Civic. Top crash test ratings, residuals, economy and quality.

another vote for an s60
s60r is what i'd get her, then borrow it, tune it w software, downpipes, FMIC and meth and return it to her.....u wont. I had a s60r, totalled it flying off a guardrail at 60mph or so.....no injuries.

Sorry for the terrible news, all that matters is that your sister is ok.
+1 Volvo

Any car is safe...they all have to pass gov test...give me a break....a new civic, mazda 3, corolla should do. In fact thats all we drive in Canada, Europe, Asia and you dont see people dying everyday.
In fact a 3 series is as big as a civic, jetta or any other compact out there. When the day to meet our creator is there...there's no way around it...even if you're driving a Peterbuilt semi-truck

There are plenty of people dying and getting seriously injured everyday all over the world from car accidents. You just don't hear about every case. Look into some statistics regarding car crashes and you'll be in for a surprise. Some cars are much safer than others, hence I'm doing the research and not getting the first car she likes. I agree with you about meeting our creator part. But our creator also gave us an ability to think and make educated decisions to help protect us from the elements. God keeps those safe who keep themselves safe. |

I remember going to the volvo dealer to check out an S60 for my mom and then turned to the XC90. I think it was 3 years after it was introduced and the sales manager said there were no recorded fatalities in an XC90 yet at that time. WOW

drives like sh*t but one of the safest sedans and super cheap. and with spyker taking over, shouldn't have to worry about future warranty concerns. |

I had two S40's, a 03 and a 05. The 05 was a unreliable piece of shit, but the 03 was great. I was in a accident with the 03 and walked away with not so much as a scratch. The safety is good, but I'm not sure about the reliability of the S60.

Funny, my '07 Nissan Pathfinder saved me & my girl in a head-on collision with a drunk driver. Crumple zones crumpled, Airbags deployed. We walked out fine. All depends on how the vehicles collide. T-Bones are bad news for most cars. Not as bad for SUVs, unless it's another SUV....
I'd jump back in a new style Pathfinder in a heartbeat. VERY safe vehicle.
