Motortrend:LF-A versus GT-R
The LFA was the winner but not as impressively as the price tag would lead one to believe.

20 years from now, the GTR will be an epic classic. LFA will just be another overpriced supercar lost in supercar history. The LFA just dosn't have the "it" factor.

all these comparisons are pointless... it's like walking up to donald trump and mockingly saying "my $200 seiko watch is just as accurate as your $60k jaeger le coultre"

Its a bad analogy unless exclusivity is the reason you buy a sports car.

No. One is an overpriced boutique car that'll will only be owned by rich guys that put them in their garages to collect dust. And one is a car that turned the high end sports car market upside down by creating a $80K car that $400k cars are compared against.
The GTR is the benchmark not the LFA.

Other reasons to buy the LFA over the GT-R: - sound - driving involvement - throttle response - likely to withstand far more punishing track lapping without overheating and major wear on components - build quality - generally insanely meticulous attention to detail (cue watch analogy) |

The GT-R is definitely all you have said it is, but I don't think your assessment of the LFA is accurate. But that's just my opinion. |

The 2000GT has taught us that a car doesn't have to be superior to "rivals" to ensure a position of prestige. Compared 2000GT vs 240Z prices recently? |

Sounds like excuses. And WTH on the driver's involvement? The LFA is fully of electronics and lacks a straight stick. The only thing you could say is it's RWD not AWD.

It's a low production numbers will guarantee a few hundreds super rich guys will buy them. The LFA is a great car but not $400k great. And what's an "it" factor? Really. Snob appeal? The GTR redefined performance in the not too insane price range. The LFA hasn't redefined anything. If I had $400k to spend on one sports car it wouldn't be an LFA. Practiaclly any Ferrari or Lambo would be preferable. I'd probably opt for the upcoming GT2 or Turbo S over it. And I would guess most car nuts would buy something else too if given that choice. How about you?

Limited production vehicls that won't see much practical (or track) use. LFAs won't see much street time regardless of what Toyota says.

The LFA's electronics are defeatable. The GT-R's AWD is not. GT-R also lacks a straight stick. And unlike the GT-R, the LFA's driving experience has been likened to not just a regular F430, but to the Scuderia. That is the level of response and involvement. This coming from people who have actually driven it. When you drove the LFA, did it not impress you? |
