light is 2.998x10^8 m/s i believe... so "warp speed" would have to be alot more than that... think about it... we're feeling the sun's light energy that was cast years ago... so if u expect to fly to some other planetary system @ "warp speed" you'd have to go faster than the speed of light

If you shine light through a warp, does it go through? If it doesn't, does that mean the light's too slow?

Warp speed is defined as a speed faster than light.

I was under the impression that "warp speed" was measured in multiples of the speed of light. In that case, warp speed would obviously be faster.

As far as the sun analogy goes, the light from the sun reaches the earth in a matter of minutes. But more amazing is that there are some stars visible through telescopes that are so far away that by the time the light reaches the earth, those stars no longer exist. You are actually looking back in time!

I guess the creator of Star Trek was light years
ahead of George Lucas and his "light speed" millenium falcon!

well I learned about light speed (people don't travel it but it is an actual quantifiable measure of speed) in science class back in the day - it really exists, but I never remember being taught about warp speed.

oh my god I want to shoot myself for participating in this thread, what is wrong with me.
