Netflix ready devices - Blu-Ray player
So, I finally got our new TV. For anyone who's looking, Best Buy is giving a $300 & $50 gift card if you buy a TV over $400 something, and sign up for DirecTV. It's a long shot that you'd be doing both, but you never know. We recently moved and canceled the DTV in my name and put it in wife's name to get all the promotions. Anyway...
Does anyone have a Netflix ready TV or other device? We are subscribed to Netflix ($19.99/month) and I wanted to know a few things: 1. To get the movies on your Netflix ready Blu-Ray, do you have to pay an additional monthly Netflix fee? 2. Do you get any movie you want, or is it limited the same way as the watch instantly feature on the computer? Thanks!

2. Only the Watch Instantly content is available, however over the last six months, content has grown and more new releases seem to be finding their way in there. |

Usually turn off one because we don't like it, and get distracted for another and never finish it, so really watch about 4 every 2 weeks. Typically I order 2 we can both watch, and one scary one for me. Nerd alert! P.S. - I think you can get one at a time for $9.99... EDIT: How much is it to rent at the store?

Watch Instantly is great. I think we watch more movies this way than waiting for the DVD. The quality is not as good so for the new releases I'll wait for the BluRay disk.

If you have a PS3 that is a netflix ready device... I think its the best bang for your buck so to speak. It has the obvious game player, blue ray, hard drive ( for music and such) and now netflix. Its quite possibly the best invention since cheese lol ( sorry watching family matters yesterday)

Yep, I use the PS3 for NF streaming. The "HD" content appears to be 720p with fairly heavy compression, but it's still better than regular DVD content.
Is Netflix still charging for BD? I dropped it when they started charging for them, but wonder if they don't charge any more now that there's no premium on streaming HD. |

They also announced a few days ago that you can get their movies streaming through wii systems now.
See here for more details : http://www.netflix.com/InstantStreamingDisc?device=Wii |

Oh cool! I actually have a wii.
Do you by chance know anything about it? Is that DVD like an installer, or do you have to have it in whenever you want to watch? Do you need a DVD like the one for the wii to set up your blu-ray? Thanks for all the help!

I'd imagine the wii solution uses a DVD too, since there's a licensing agreement with MS to keep the x360 as the only software streaming game platform. However since the wii is limited to 480p output, I'd look elsewhere unless you don't care about HD content.

Yes, you do have to ask for a DVD to install on your wii. Mine is still in the transit so I don't know much about what is involved yet. It'll be here today or tomorrow. I will let you all know once I get it and read the insructions.

Not sure why anyone would ever pay to watch movies at home.
Why don't you just buy a PS3 or Xbox 360 and link it to your computer. Download any and all movies that interest you from torrents. And then play them on your TV connected to 360. You will save money and see new movies way before they get to NetFlix. |

Yes, the wii is now considered a device for netflix. I just got my disc today, but haven't played around with it. You just need to make sure your wii is connected to the internet. The disc from netflix states that you will have to insert it each time you want to watch streaming movies. The choices of movies for streaming do seem a little limited, but since I have kids, it doesn't hurt to instantly watch random old movies for them...ones that I wouldn't normally want to add to queue and wait for.

Just an update for anyone who's interested.
It was SUPER easy, literally plugged in the HDMI to the TV, it told me to go to a url on Netflix and enter the code and BAM - instant movies. I decided to get the wifi *built- in*, instead of wifi ready. That way no other materials are needed. Beetlejuice and Nightmare on Elm Street instantly, what more could a girl ask for? Also have ordered the disc for Wii. Thanks for the help!

I have a Blueray player that has Netflix and it is great for the TV shows and movies on intant.
I also pay about $20 a month (3 Bluray movies at a time and unlimited streaming). I like to have one of the discs be a TV show that I'll keep for a bit and the other 2 will be movies I didn't bother seeing in the theatres. Most of my streaming seems to be a good 720p but every now and then it'll show FULL HD in the quality and be just as good as a disc! I use wireless connection on my Samsung Bluray player for that.

Uh oh, the player is a Samsung, not sure which one...threw away the box.
I will say this: We bought a Samsung 55" Series 6 (looking at the box) and a Sony Bravia EX5 40" and the material they're made of is AWFUL. It's this shiny looking stuff around the screen (other 3-year old Sony Bravias have a matte finish) and it looks fine in the store, but THE DUST, OMG. I can't believe how it just attracts the dust, after 2 days they are filthy, especially the stands. I can literally write my name in the stand. Yuck.
