It was definitely established that one of four men commited a crime. Following are the statements made by each of the suspects:

Abe: Bert did it
Bert: Dan did it
Charlie: I didn't do it
Dan: Bert lied when he said I did it.

If only one statement is true, who is the criminal?

I'm phased. . . been staring at this for the past 20 minutes.

Just a guess.

Abe is the only person who maliciously blamed the crime on someone else.

Or I could change my answer and say that Bert did it because Abe said that Bert did it and Bert blamed it on someone else... so that's two strikes against him.

would it be charlie because he's the only one denying (lying)? abe and bert are assuming, dan is telling the truth

2) If Bert was the criminal, Abe's statement would be TRUE, Bert's statement would be FALSE, Charlie's statement would be TRUE, and Dan's statement would be TRUE. This has two TRUE statements, and is not the answer.

The true statement is from Dan, "Dan: Bert lied when he said I did it."

Since there is only 1 true statement, the rest are all lies. Meaning that Charlie's declaration of innocence is a lie. Charlie commited the crime.
