BMW a no-show at midwest auto shows
No booth at either St.Louis(last month) or in Kansas City this weekend. What gives? Waste of time to go now.

Maybe if the midwest people would buy less pickup trucks and more beemers then they would show up to these shows.

Both St. Louis and KC are dealer shows, no real media days and certainly no product reveals (unlike Detroit, Chicago, New York, LA).
It costs the dealer a bunch of money. KC only has one BMW dealer and they'll take the $ BMW NA gives them for promotion and do something else with it (Baron normally has an April party at the dealership). Don't know what the deal in St. Louis is though . . . (In KC it's partly the demographic that goes to the show, they probably don't make all that many sales from the show. But Baron will have a Mini display.) |

Just got back from the Cleveland Auto Show and no BMW there either. Also, one Jaguar and two Infiniti vehicles. The show was much smaller this year with most manufactures having less vehicles on display. A sign of the times I guess.

guys...........it's still a recession. Why would BMW spend money to display cars in smaller markets? What is the ROI?
I understand it's disappointing, but welcome to the new reality of the world economy.... |

I will say that I was disappointed that there wasn't an owner's lounge this year (dammit, I was thirsty!). I guess I can't complain too much since they were at least in Chicago. Then I saw that Audi didn't have one either so I calmed down.

All manufacturers are cutting back. For 2010, BMW NA doesn't even have any printed brochures on their entire line of vehicles. Seems odd to spend 70K plus and not get a brochure.

No owner's lounge in Toronto either... been that way for a couple of years now. Mercedes still managed to have a lounge and test drive area though.

Talked to the Audi rep Sat at the KC show. He said on average the it cost $80,000 for the weekend to show your wares. His buddy works at Baron Bmw and said it really wasnt worth it. They just don't get that many sales from the shows to justify cost. Makes sense. There were some nice Mcclarens there and a a super Amg SL65 V12.

A friend and his wife went to the auto show in Milwaukee, and apparently BMW had a large presence at the show.
Really surprised they were not at the shows mentioned above...
