tsunami is supposed to reach hawaii in just over 2 hours from now. Hopefully it will have lost most of its energy by then.

I am over here in hawaii. The first wave is due to hit in 30 mins. There is no wind, not a cloud and very sunny...

yep, the movie 2012 is a true proficiency. Start making your boats now and you might have a chance. The Mayans knew about 2012 and they all drank that kool aid to avoid the unavoidable.

so here is what im wondering...dont these "waves" die out? the tsunami that hit Indonesia was caused by a nearby underwater earthquake right? so if a tsunami hits Hawaii, they wont be expecting something like Indonesia will they?

Yes, they die out. But how severe the waves are and how far they travel depends on a lot of things. The earthquake that hit Chile today was 500 times as powerful as the one that hit Haiti, but things like the depth of the epicenter and the type of earthquake it is (the type of motion) all factor into it, so it's not a direct comparison. And there's not enough time to analyze all of that information between the time the quake happens and the time the tsunami reaches the islands. It was possible that Hawaii could have gotten horrible flooding, or nothing at all. It looks like it will be closer to nothing, thankfully.
