New Nikon D90
I absolutely love this camera! It feels so great, has many ridiculous functions and obviously takes fantastic photos.
It really feels great in the hand and has a VERY quality feel all about it. Can't stop taking pictures!! And the best is saved for last... |

Getting the Nikon is the first mistake.. (okok, I'll get flamed... its all personal preference).
But seriously, if you look at those professional sports shooters or fashion mags... 7-8 out of 10 uses Canon. :P Well, I guess depends where you go I guess... anyway, D90 is a nice camera. A friend of mine has it.. even though he gets dissed a lot by the rest of us.. (all canon users).

The best camera is the one that's with you.... ....even better if it's a Canon.

D90 is a great camera and I have tried it a few times and they're great. (I used to have a D40x myself). So, enjoy your D90 man, I'm sure you'll add more lens to your collection in the future.

Canon 5d isn't a fair comparison against the D90 - it was around $800 more!
The D90 still holds its own on the image quality front though - as borne out here. http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng...2%29/Canon#357 Comparing the D90 to its Canon equivalent - the D50 http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng...rand2%29/Canon BTW - I have a Canon.

Focal Length: 300mm f2.8 - Both 300mm f4 - Nikon (only $1,400 but no VR) 400mm f2.8 - Both 400mm f4 - Canon 400mm f5.6 - Canon (only $1,340, but no IS) 500mm f4 - Both 600mm f4 - Both 800mm f5.6 - Canon It does come to down to personal preference more than anything though. I personally don't like Canon's rear dial setup, preferring Nikon's two dial locations. But Canon L glass is cheaper than the equivalent Nikon lens, which is a bummer (being a Nikon shooter.) Oh yeah, and ask the Canon guys in the "Controlled Lighting" contest how they feel about their built-in flashes not being able to act as Commanders.... (7D excluded....) The Nikon D70, D80, D90, D300, D300s and D700 all have that feature available.... All that being said, were I buying from scratch today, the Canon 7D would be a major decision vs. the Nikon D300s (I have the D300.) For the hundreds I could save on L glass vs. the Nikon equivalents, I could probably learn to deal with the Canon's rear dial placement......

Now how did this degrade into a "Canon vs. Nikon" flame war anyway?

Imagine my reaction when I checked this thread again...
Anyway, I am very pleased with the D90. The in-camera photo processing is really nice and the slideshow etc. features are nice, but probably won't use them much. I am by no means a pro or even semi-pro, yet. I was just looking for a camera upgrade, obviously a dSLR, and with the video record function, this camera fits MY needs nicely and that's why I got it. Even though the video is only 720p and has a minute limitation, it was a better trade off than the Canon 50d, which has none and I didn't want to spend another $600 to go for the 7D. It's funny how the Canon snobs in here act as if the D90 is a cheap Taiwan knock-off with retarded picture quality. But, I guess that is how it is. I am coming from a little Cannon SD550. As far as the lenses go. I thought I wouldn't need many as I'm not that far in the weeds right now, but I can tell I already want one that zooms a good bit more. I have had alot of fun with the camera this weekend and already went through a battery. It came just in time to capture my newest mod, CF chargepipe! I have not modified any settings but here is a pic of the pipe and one of my new x-mas puppy! |

as ive posted...
how can you support a company that advertises like this : in all reality, nikon + canon both make good products, just have to find that one that fits you and go with it. seems the OP has so props...enjoy the gear!!!!

They are just envious! Enjoy the camera, take lots of pics. I suggest even checking with a local camera shop to see if they offer any classes.

Love my D90. Wish it did better about 800 ISO though.
