2011 Ford GT, 5L V8, 412hp

It's official:

http://blogs.insideline.com/straight...-liter-v8.html

That's crazy, a GT mustang will have over 400hp. Hope they have good traction control or there will be a lot more dead high school kids.

Can't wait to drive one. The '05-up have been excellent bang for the buck performance cars that are great starting points for everything from killer drag cars to serious road racers. And good daily drivers, too. I drove an '10 GT and found it to be quite fun. It's everything a classic pony car was supposed to be, with all the abilities that a modern car should have. That same car with a 6 speed and another hundred+ hp should be a blast.

Make mine Kona blue with white stripes...

Chris,

yeah man, u should get one. i rented one in California and was amazed at the how much progress they have made in the pony car. probably due to Kamarroo by Chevy and Challenger by Dodge pushing them to up the gayiem.

I have to admit for the money that is going to be a fun little car.

I saw a 2010 in the sky type blue the other day and it did catch my eye.

0-60 in 4.5 is not too shabby.

It seems Ford has finally put the Mustang back on the same level (or maybe even above) with GM, after being behind for years. It's a great time to be a car enthusiast, at least for a few more years!

I'd love to own one of these in a few years. I want to be able to tell my kids I owned a pure blooded American V8 back at the peak of the gasoline powered cars.

That is awesome. Ford, and Chevy for that matter, are bringing some serious product to the market.

Ford Mustang v6 (base) vs Camaro v6 (base)
Ford Mustang GT vs Camaro SS
Ford Mustang GT500 vs Camaro Z28

Oh and from rumors from a friend who works for ford claims that the GT500 will be more likely a GT600 with a Twin Turbo 5.0L v8 with roughly 615hp...Z28...Eat your heart out

The exterior changes they made in 2010 really improve the car, too.

Finally Ford gets with the program here and puts some real power in the base pony car. Far cry from the old 5.0L engine in my first stang with only 225hp.

wait, how has Ford been behind for years when they were the only one producing a pony car?

They've been behind since the LT1 F-Bodies.

Behind in hp, but not in sales. The Camaro wan't even around when Ford upped the ante with the '05 Mustang (that was improved radically over it's predecessor, even though there was no competition for it on the market).

The Camaro is only outselling the Mustang now because it's new and heavily hyped, since Camaros haven't been around for most of this past decade. And even at that, the Camaro is barely outselling the Mustang.

I'm talking strictly about speed. The Camaro's sales were nearly DOUBLE the Mustang's last month.

In '05 GM had the GTO, which was killing the Mustang on drag strips all over the country, just as the Camaro is now. Ford has been behind the curve until this increase in HP.

It looks to get 25mpg Highway as per autoweek. Not like any of us would get that. GO FORD!

The point is, sped is obviously overrated, considering that neither the GTO nor the Camaro could sell well enough to stick around. The Camaro is selling better than the Mustang right now due to being heavily hyped for a couple years now, and the Mustang was at the end of a 5 year cycle (and most enthusiasts knew the bigger engine wasn't coming out until next year, so why buy this year's model?).
