i turn on my bros comp today and it doesn't seem to boot. it was working just fine yesterday (windows xp pro).
1. i turn on the comp 2. it goes to the screen saying it couldn't boot windows and gives me options of botting in safe mode, start windows normally, etc. 3. i try the start windows normally first, then the most recent working setting, followed by safe mode (does the windows xp cd need to be in the cd rom drive to do this?) 4. i try all the options and what happens is it goes to the windows xp screen then i get a quick blue screen with some type of characters, numbers, etc (too quick to read) and the comp reboots again and when it does it brings me back to the option page with the start windows normally, etc. 5. i pick another option and same thing happens quick blue screen, reboots, and brings me back to the screen with options. what is wrong? help much appreciated. thanks. found someone with exactly what i had but still not fixable: http://www.ozzu.com/hardware/machine...t40747-15.html http://articles.techrepublic.com.com...1-6031733.html if i run the repair through the windows cd will that delete what i have on the harddrive or just fix and repair window files?

As your attorney I highly recommend drinking heavily, that should sort this out. Drugs might help too.

It sounds like your system files are corrupted or it is infected with a virus.
Normally, the repair option will not delete your personal files, but there is always a chance where you can lose everything in the process of repairing or if you just select the wrong option. Are your files backup somewhere? if so, go for it. If not, I would take the HD out and plug it into another PC and backup the files before doing anything to fix the OS. |

I had that problem a while back
either your PC files are corrupted, or you have bad sectors on your HDD.. have you installed any new hardware recently? could be that something messed during installation of it. Run repair, it should fix it, but chances are it won't. try reinstalling windows try plugging it in to another PC as a slave and check for bad sectors. If there are many, then buy a new hard drive, install it as your primary drive and reinstall windows on it. Run your old hard drive as a slave, grab all your files and forget about the old one.
