2010 Taurus VS Lexus LS460.....seriously??

ford keeps coming out with comparisons with cars such as
infiniti m45X
Audi A6
Acura RL
Honda Accord
Infiniti G37 sedan
and now a $70k lexus??

it just makes me laugh how hard they're trying to promote the new Taurus
any thoughts?

BTW read the comments left on the video, pretty funny

Have you actually seen the new Taurus? Why is it so absurd that Ford has started producing good products that they're proud of ,and they are trying to reach out to consumers who may be in the market for similar cars produced by their competitors? Whether or not that video is edited and whatever. It is a good comparison. Paint is really important , and as a car detailer I can say that Lexus does have some of the thinnest paint in the industry, they seem to be very vulnerable to environmental debris and such. All the video displays is that Ford is taking a big step up in the quality of their vehicles, and what you get for the price. Whats wrong with that?

In Solviet Russia, propaganda is always number one!

They are not saying the Taurus is better then the Lexus or the other luxury cars as a luxury car. All they are showing is those V8 equipped vehicles are slower then the EcoBoost SHO and gets worse fuel economy then the SHO. Since affordable RWD V8 sedans are rare these days, Ford is forced to use luxury cars to make their point.

Do people who buy $70K luxury cars worry about fuel economy? By the way the BMW 335 gets better fuel economy than the Ecoboost and is as fast.

You truly are missing the point here. Ford isn't trying to convince luxury car buyers to get into the Taurus instead. But, large V8 cars are only prevalent in the luxury markets these days( Genesis and 300/Charger being the exceptions). Ford is advertising the performance of the Taurus SHO against V8 equipped large cars. They are not positioning the Taurus SHO as a luxury car. They are taking vehicles that have the similar power output via V8 as the EcoBoost V6 and showing the SHO is faster and gets better fuel economy then those V8 equipped cars.

And me= fail. Just watched the ad. I assumed it was just another one of Ford's V8 cars vs SHO straight line performance ads. So yes I just failed hard there. lol

Pathetic marketing, but half the problem is the pathetic styling. The Tarus is a snoozefest.

Yes, it's just as fast and gets just as good fuel economy. But it's not a full size sedan, now is it?

Most tauruses sold will not be the Ecoboost SHOs anyhow, but the normally aspirated versions like the SEL. The SEL is a very well equipped large sedan that is more than adequately fast enough for the average sedan buyer, and is priced right at $30k on dealer's lots, which is VERY competetive.

And none of the Tauruses compet with the 3 series BMW.

im glad we're not seeing a one-sided, "+1, Ford sucks" throughout this thread. I agree that as an E9x driver, I want to be proud of what I drive and say it's better since it's a BMW (wooooo... -__-), but I have to agree more with those that say Ford is doing better. They're finally realizing that they need to step up their efforts to compete in an industry where change occurs constantly.

+1. I have family that can afford a rolls but settle for the S class instead. And have bought the S430 (2003) over the S500/55/600/65 and now the S550 (2009) over the S63/600/65. They do care about the gas mileage even if they do not drive as much.

Stupid test, Ford needs to open their eyes. They will never amount to their competition. After driving just a normal Taurus, I can say the ride is horrid. How boring can you make a car. Props to Ford for trying though.

They know that. Ford is targeting people that are simpleminded enough to really think that they are buying something comparable.

I think half of you guys failed to watch the video. you're talking about V8's and performance...size vs 335's. why? the video is about the quality of the paint job you're getting, relative to what a very well respected luxury manufacturer is putting on their best cars. it's something they're proud of...and why not? it's apparently better engineered paint & metal.

and the ad isn't pathetic. it's simply designed to help potential customers understand that they took many aspects of this car seriously. Even more serious than some $70,000 cars do. They're not trying to compete with the LS460; they're saying they worked hard on many aspects of this product to make it one of their best cars ever. it appears to be just that.

it's V6 engine and subsequent performance compares favorably with even the most prolific V8's in the class. it's interior provides solid options, most of which aren't seen under $40k. even the paint is better than cars twice the price. so why not consider one if you need a full-size car and want to spend under $50k? THAT is the point.

You drove a new 2010 Taurus? So did I, and I came away with a completely different impression. Even the SEL version was a decent drive, and for the money, there's not much out there that can touch it.

I'm actually quite impressed with this edition of the Taurus:

I just don't know how I could get over the look from the outside enough to even sit in one. That thing looks like a bad Chinese knock-off of an Audi A6.
