Hardware or software problem? If it's software then it cant really be tied to Dell sucking.

Yes, I work for dell.

I have only ever had one Dell - a company laptop.

Firstly the clip holding the battery in broke - so the battery kept falling out.

Then the clip (same design) for the DVD drive broke and that kept falling out.

Then while I was waiting for an engineer appointment to fix it, the disc drive fell out and triggered a fatal error, which killed the entire laptop.

This was hardware and software related in that the 'ejection of the DVD drive (i.e. it falling out) occured without 'stopping' it. This had happened several times before, but on this occasion I ended up with a boot error which required a complete software re-build.

Our IT boys managed to get some files of the D:\ partition but I lost quite a lot of e-mail records.

Other than that I would heartily recommend dell

Dell just had that recent battery recall as well. Not their fault since the battery was from Sony (I think).

I work for the government and one of my tasks is that I am in charge of ordering all of our IT equipment. We have a contract with dell and I HATE to call our rep. I have to wait on the phone forever to get a hold of him or anyone in that dept. If I leave a voice mail then he may...or may not get back to me. The best is that I have had 3 different reps in the past 12 months....and they never tell me that my rep has change so it really takes me like a whole day to get through to everyone to find out who my new rep is... I cringe every time I think about having to call Dell

How they have award winning customer service is beyond me. But as for the product...no real issues there.

Thats just my rant and rave

this one hits home....

My chick has a dell inspirion 5150 laptop....this thing worked awesome for about 2 years...then all hell breaks loose! The monitor needs replacement, its fixed and then the thing literally just dies three months later, went to THREE different tech/repair guys, got three different quotes and two days later, after dropping it off three separate times I got ONE anwser...."unfortunately, your computer has encountered a critical malfunction" WTF, "yes sir you would need to replace both the harddrive and the motherboard @ a cost of nearly $500 (including install).....AND there is no garentee this will completely solve the problem....WTF!!! So in short, yes I dont think I will buy a dell product EVER again!!!

***I love when you call their tech support located in some third world middle eastern or asain country all the employes seem to have names which...dont quite fit...MIKE, JOHN, TOM....SARAH, JENNIFER, I LMAO every time I call and they say "yes MR. ****, this is John how may I help you" LOL

I would stay away from 2 computers, one which is Dell and the other is Gateway.

I recommend Sony Vaio( I have both computer and laptop), also HP and Compaq are good ones.

Had a dell for 3 years let me tell you about my problems. I needed it for school and the screen kept going black. I called them every week for about a month and they told me to do the same thing and it worked for a couple days then messed up again. So finally i called dell and told the guy what was up and he proceeded to tell me do to the same exact thing i just told him 12 other people have done and he says ok now do this and thats when i start to get angry and yell at the guy. Finally he agrees to send me a box so i can ship it to them and get it looked at by a technician. I send it in the pre addressed box they confirm it gets there say it will take 2 weeks to fix. Im pissed that it will take this long since i need it for school but if it will fix it idc. So 1 month later (2 weeks after they said it would be done..) i call up to find where it is. they proceed to tell me they never recieved it. I yell at them for 30 min telling them i recieved confirmation that it was recieved and they said well maybe its in the warehouse but thats closed today call back tomarrow. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! I call back the next day and they tell me it was sitting in the warehouse they must've misplaced it! they said they are going to work on it now should have it 2 weeks. Another 2 weeks go bye i call them back. O its being sent out tomarrow sir. I recieved it a week after they told me that. Let me add its next day air shipping how its sent. To make a long story short the "fix" didnt work i demanded a new computer, got a refurbished one that had just as many problems. Finally 2 summers ago I went to Apple and bought my Powerbook G4, and up to the moment :knocks on wood: there have been NO PROBLEMS.
DUDE YOUR NOT GETTING A DELL lol

I have had few problems with my laptop but the warranty covered. The service was quick and were in time so I haven't been disappointed. I got my Inspiron 700M for 800 bucks so I really can't complain

I had a dell, and it was fine, although I did all my own tech support. The couple times I did call them they just told me to check all the stuff I had already checked and then told me they had no idea what was wrong.

I built my current computer myself from the ground up and even though it's nice, I won't have the time to do that again. My next computer will likely be an Alienware but I may consider a Dell as I can get a discount on them through work. We'll see.

Hmm, I didn't know that. No wonder they've started using Dell LCD's on some of their systems.

Still have my pentium II 400 Dell that I don't use anymore but it still works fine. That thing has been through a lot and still works, its a tank.

Our old gateway had lots of problems as did many of the compaqs at work.

Now I just build my own. It's my own fault or the individual hardware manufacturers if it sucks.
