I just saw the commercial! REALLY! GM is trying to step their game up in turbo engine systems. A 3.5 twin turbo v6 producing 365 hp and 350 torque. I really want to see what the tuning industry would do to this car. btw the car itself looks horrible.

The car itself looks alright, it's a boat though. Ford's getting good numbers from that engine, good to see they're on the right track at least.

not to be an ass, but the Ford Taurus is Ford. GM is Chevrolet, Pontiac, GMC etc...

but yea, good numbers from an American made car. I saw one on the road and yes... they are a BOAT. The styling is just too BLAH and big. Sits high, and just looks like a family cruiser. I think if they would have made it a little sportier looking I might get one.

I saw one on the road this weekend and thought it looked very good. The styling is fresh and brings more of the European Ford style over; refreshing over the American Ford styling we've been getting the last few years (read: dull).

Sure it's big, but it's a family sedan guys. Point me in the direction of a small family sedan these days... I support Ford with this car. I think it should win over some customers.

Rumor has it that Ford already has plans to make the 2011 refreshed taurus more aggressive looking.

Yeah, the Taurus has moved up a class to full size, vs the mid size it was before, mostly due to not being too close in size to the smaller Fusion.

And while the SHO is a great offering, the "normal" SEL is well equipped and properly sized for a $30k family sedan these days.

I drovre this the other day, just to get a feel for it:



It's an SEL version, extensively optioned, with Sync, blind spot warning system, etc. etc., sticker with everything was $30,995. Yeah, it's taller than my 740, but that's so it can have a better seating position, with more normal (easier) ingress and egress, and also accomodate the "stadium seating" in the rear, where the rear sets have a great view forward. As a family sedan, it feels good, and you'd only notice it's heft coming out of a lightweight spoorts car, which it's not supposed to compete with.

the SHO has a curb weight of 4,368, so I was a smidge off on my estimate of 4500 (not by much), but 4368 is a boat by any calculation when an equivalent sized acura tl weighs 3950, a nissan infiniti g37x weighs 3869 (and thats heavy...).
and I agree, its 37k + tax, which comes to ~40k...most of us pay tax...

im not digging dirt, im shocked that this car can be so expensive and weigh so much and people are in awe of its "performance" specs?

in comparison to current offerings by various other manufacturers in the same price range. 400-500 lbs is a lot of weight, and for the same price point as the acura tl, infiniti g37, and even a subaru legacy spec b (3500lbs...so a whole 900 lbs less than the ford)...the performance on this ford is nothing amazing, and especially for its price point

The SHO has more power than my 7 series, while weighing about the same. I find my 7 series to be more than adequately fast, and I found that even the non-SHO version of the Taurus to be more than adequate.

And the three cars you listed are MID-SIZE cars not full sizers, which is why they weigh less. You might as well compare the three of them to a 7 series BMW. But oh, they don't compete.

i'm actually amazed that people would pay above $40k for a honda (oops i mean acura) or a nissan (oops i mean infiniti), or toyota (oops i mean lexus) but hey, the majority of people would.

you know what i'm shocked about? that anyone would pay $70k for a 550i that weights 4000 pounds and has 360hp/360lb-ft torque.. $30k seems like an awful lot of money for 350 less pounds and a nicer (subjective) interior for the BMW vs. the SHO... BMW's reliability for their v8's is not any better than ford's..

also, the g37 is a competitor to the 335i and is350, not a full sized sedan like the SHO.

the taurus is not trying to be a sports car, it is i what it is: a full sized sedan with a lot of horsepower.

After a little cool down, we blasted her down at the NMRA World Finals!
4550 with me in the car and she went an amazing 12.75@108 mph!

well said. Ford deserves much respect for getting this car out the door. if the SHO sells well, it could mean the US also gets some of the Focus and Fusion variants that are currently only available to the Euro market.

Ford is doing everything it needs to be doing to get back into contention for the top automaker spot.
