Well over the past few months there has been a lot of rumors ,and speculation that ford will be dropping a 5.0 in the 2011 Mustang Gt. It appears by various sources that this is INDEED happening. My question is... Even though just about everyone on here is a BMW guy, how many of you would be interested in getting one , if it lived up to its hype, and only costed 30-35k?

After being a passenger in my buddy's 2008/2009 Mustant GT, hell no. IDC if it's faster it feels like I'm driving in a boat not a sporty car.

MMM i see where your comign from. I use to have an 08 v6 mustang and it was quite boatey as u say, but have u been in a 2010 with a track pack. Its pretty much a bunch of diffrent suspension parts. One magazine i THINK motor trend pulled .99g on skidpad. Pretty good if u ask me

The Mustang just has a second rate aura around it, they might put a rocket in it but i would rather have a less powerful, well thought out car that is complete. The RS Focus for example.

Yeah i agree to an extent with you there. Only problem is we dont get the RS in america

Drove a Mustang Shelby as a rental once as well as a buddy's Roush Edition (stage III, I think) and although they were both powerful monsters, I would never spend a dime on a Mustang. They lack refinement, driver connection, and just do not feel right when sitting behind the wheel (ergonomics). Just an inferior product (comparing to BMW), at any price.

Yeah like Ive said before, the older model had plenty of flaws, but after i drove in a new 1, i feel ford fixed a lot of the issues most people had with the older model. Plus, i may get flamed for this but, my 328 don't get me wrong drives beautiful good road feel, good handling for what it is etc. But im sorry its not the kind of car that makes you want to wake up every morning and just go for a drive, its certainly no s2000 on the fun factor scale. Ive also been in friends 335s numerous times and although much faster then a 328 ,and makes cool little turbo sounds , again not a car that id be like ECSTATIC to wake up every morning and drive. The mustang may not be that way either, i just believe most people stereotype all new muscle cars due to the shit the american car companys have produced in the past 15 years. You also have to factor in that a 328 with a few options can cost $40 grand easily, let alone what you would pay for a 335i heavily optioned.

It'll certainly win out in the following areas compared to the 3 or 1:
Speed
Reliability
Tunability
Cost to own

Handling, not so sure. The Track Pack Mustang is supposed to handle very well, this one promises to be better. Overall fun-to-drive could go either way, can't say until this car is out.

It will not be as luxurious, and likely will not retain its value as well.

It promises to be superior to the Camaro, by a good margin.

I'd be interested in picking up a used one in a few years and throw in a lopey cam and snarling exhaust, would be a fun car to cruise around town in.

I'd like to start a car collection. I've got two pretty nice ones in my stable right now in the STi and the 135i. The next one needs to ve a V8.

Just drove a '10 GT 5 speed with the 19" wheels and 3.55 gears, but no track pack.

Build quality was more than adequate for the price. Everything felt fine. Seats were quite comfortable and easy to get positioned perfectly for my 5'10" height, with good outward visibility.

Nice clutch action, and shifter throws were spot on. Felt a lot like the last 3 series I drove with a manual for throws and feel. The sound was glorious, and it pulled hard everywhere. Brakes were definitely not like Mustang brakes of old: preogressive, predictable, and stopped quickly and smoothly. Wish old musclecars worked that good!

Steering was precise, too. No dead spot in the center like older Fords had. very responsive and easy to flick. And on the rough roads around Baltimore here, it rode as good as my 7, and didn't give any drama from the rear end. I've been in IRS cars that skittered worse over bumps (granted, they were generally set up to pull around 1G laterally, but just goes to show, if you want good grip and no lean, then there won't be much suspension compliance, be it live axle or IRS). I'd like to try a track pack equipped car, as they are supposed to be even better for handling and axle control.

These aren't sports cars. Mustangs never were. The idea was a small musclecar that was competent road racing as well as drag racing. The originals were, and so are the new ones (as multiple road racing victories in the US and Europe against BMWs and Porsches will attest). If you think it's a boat, then you haven't been in many mid size and larger cars.

I hear you on that...I had an impala rental car the other month. THAT was a boat.

Assuming the 5L Mustang GT doesn't gain too much weight it will still be a few hundred lbs lighter than the Camaro/Challenger so it will still dominate the muscle car category.

I myself am really jumping with joy on the inside . I really like what ford has done with the 2010 model year, and it looks like its just continuing to get better.

This thread pertains to the new-gen Mustang, specifically the '11 with the new engine. Your post does not.

'08/'09 = different feel altogether in comparison to the '10+.

Your logic doesn't make sense. The equivalent statement would be like saying I've driven an E65 7 Series so the 7er will always suck.

While I do like the look of the Mustang and 400HP sounds pretty good to me, I would probably not own one - prefer looks and fit and finish of other cars.

Why would "not twin turbo" be a con on a 400hp car?

Well to me it really isnt, but its easier to make power out of F.I vs N.A obviously, and i couldn't think of any other flaws to be quite honest lol.
