WTF is the Ford SHO Ecoboost?

Just saw a commercial for this thing....never heard of it before. Can Ford really try to charge $45K for a 4-door sports car in this economy?

I will say the engine is very impressive...but c'mon a Ford for $45K?
AWD - 3.5 Liter Twin Turbo V6 making 365Hp.

From Top Speed:
"The 2010 Ford Taurus SHO is one engaging vehicle to drive, with its powerful Eco Boost engine and responsive all wheel drive system. The 3.5 Liter turbocharged V6 works like a V8, making 365 HP, while getting 25 MPG on the highway; this Super High Output model is the future of sport luxury sedans. The styling is 21st century and the forward thinking power plant is a must in todays conservation minded society.

The base Taurus will sell for around $30,000 and the high horsepower model will retail closer to $45,000. Ford has something for every price level with their new four door, but we recommend the SHO."

But let me say this. I'm impressed that it has heated/cooled/massaging front seats... A loaded model here in Canada is about $48k after "employee discount" promo which is a great price for what you get. The downside though is that it's too heavy.

Of course they can...if it fails, we'll just bail them out!

Again?

I think you need to go back and see who actually took money and then come back and post because you seem to be really mis informed

AFAIK Ford didn't take bail out money. Ford makes some good cars, although some of their better models are only sold overseas. Ford, and most of their subsidiaries (Lincoln, Mercury), have significantly higher reliability ratings than BMW. Say what you want about Ford, but you show me a BMW that will compete with the (now discontinued) Ford GT at anywhere near the price point.

I drive a BMW.

That's Chevy/GM, and whether or not it gets 230MPG is debatable as converting electrical use to gasoline mileage isn't very exact.

They didnt get bailed out.

Anyway the SHO was a big deal when it first came out in 1989 (well at least it was to Ford) it was actually aimed at BMW a bit.

Back in the day it was actually a pretty fast car.

Anyway I think that $45k may be a bit high in this economy, but the new SHO is actually a pretty good car and you get a ton of value for the money.

I expect to see some massive discounts, soon.

Ford can make all the noise it wants but the fact is, it is way too heavy and unsure of itself. The Name just makes it worse, the Taurus most know is a horrid POS you get when you crash.

They could have called it "turbo", but no... the marketing dept had to get involved with the doublespeak "eco-boost"! Who are they kidding?!

The engine is sweet. But it doesn't negate the fact that 1) its a TAURUS 2) Its damn ugly 3) It handles like crap 4) The steering completely lacks feel and 4) I'd never pay that much, even for a base model.

The completely stripped Taurus is a good value for the money. Thats it.

Not to mention you can pick up a new base vette for less.

Any plans to put that motor into the mustang? I think it'd be a really smart move if they want to beat the Camaro.

first of all its not a "show" (gay ass commercial)

Its an S H O= Super high output...

Its namesake is the Taurus SHO of the late 80's early 90's which is a fairly rare breeed that packed the same engine as the Mustang GT of the time.

The OLD SHO was nothing short of bad ass for its day (and being american) and frankly, america's first attempt at a true sports sedan.

However -
The new one is ugly.
Its a Ford.
It will have fords classic lego interior
Its heavy and will handle like shit most likely.
at the price point of a BMW.......

Actually the two engines originally used in the Taurus SHO Gen. 1 and Gen. 2 were Yamaha DOHC V-8's (4.0 liter and 4.2 liter if I remember correctly). The Mustang GT used the Ford corporate iron-block pushrod 5.0 liter V-8.

Exactly what $38K BMW has 365 HP? Seems to me a 328i is about two class sizes and 125 HP shy of the mark.
