My parents need a small AWD crossover SUV that is new and in the 15-25k range
So my parents are looking into getting rid of their 2005 Chrysler minivan. Mainly because it sucks, has 70,000 miles on it and acts like it has 150,000 (tooooo many problems to name). My mom is getting super fed up with the "quality" of it. Also, we have no more Chrysler dealers around.
They're looking at the Toyota Rav4, but I am trying to convince them to grab a Subaru instead. I have seen tests where Subaru's AWD system outperforms Honda, VW, and Toyota's AWD systems. Personally, I think the upcoming 2010 looks like it'd be great with its CVT and neat standard features. What would you all recommend? I'd tell them to wait for the X1 but that's just wayyy out of their price range. |

I'd highly reccomend a Subaru Forester...my mom bought a brand new one back in '01 and had until someone ran into her when she was parked last year. She put 150,xxx on it in the time and barely changed the oil. She never did the timing belt and even still I really can't recall a single problem that it ever had.

the Forrester also won the last "SUV of the year" from Motor Trend.

Why not the new Chevy Equinox? I believe the 2.4 DI uses the Haldex AWD system which many reviewers have loved in the Saab 9-3. Plus, it gets 3 MPG better on the highway then the Forester( both get 20 MPG city).

At least take a look at the Hyundai Veracruz. You might be able to get a Limited down to $25,000.
It's pretty much a Lexus RX with longer warranty for a lot less. If not the Veracruz, the Santa Fe is cheaper while still maintaining most of the features. 5-star safety, and is now a recommended buy from CR.
