whoever invented the cubicle should go die
as much as i like having a part-time job as a paid intern where i work, i wanna kill myself right now. if some of you guys sit in one of these drab life-sucking cells for a living then hats off to ya. i know i can't do this for a lifetime.
i've also recently developed a strong affection for minesweeper on expert mode, if that's any indication of my attention span... /endrant

Get an iPhone, much better games than mine sweeper and it is more discrete. I don't mind it since I can walk around and talk to people at will. Cubicle jobs are not all that bad if you get paid well enough
I can't complain anyway.

intern here to at a cpa firm. I got a cubicle but it's pretty laid back since it ain't tax season and my co-workers are friendly. We just walk around whenever we want to and have small talk and whatnot. Would be a lot worse if we didnt or couldn't get up very often.

it's a paid internship. there's not much i can do about it. i'm still 19 and a student. don't have many options, save for your typical min wage jobs.

Some places give everyone a cube. Others reserve cubes for only the lower ranks. Others give everyone an office. You'll see it across all industries so simply changing careers or moving up the ladder won't solve the problem (if it's a big problem). Intel is an extreme case where everyone has a cube. It doesn't matter if you're an intern or Otellini - you have a cube. The fact that nearly every cube, floor, wall, window, building, etc are also the same just makes it worse. It was definitely one of the (minor) factors in my decision to not go back to Intel or AMD. That being said, there are much better reasons to choose where you will or will not work. You should be there for the work, not the office furniture! |

My wife did not spend very long in the cubicle environment before she realized that she needed to go back to school. She if finally done and working as an RN, much better, 3 nights per week and more then double what she was making in the cube.
I guess the lesson is, don't stop with just a business degree, you will waste your life in a cube (for a while anyway). |

I'm a career consultant in the Banking industry and i've sat in every type of place you can imagine.
-Office -Cube -Trading Desk -Home Office -Conference Room The best, in my mind is the trading desk, but that is personal preference. It just depends on where you are able to concentrate the best. Some people like the chaos of a trading desk, some prefer to have silence in an office. Some ever prefer to do most of there work while in a stall making tremendous stinking doody. It also depends what field you are in also, I guess. It's all personal preference. |

Same man, 19 here too. I intern full-time (8am-5pm) in a cube every summer. At least they pay well...or I'd be GONE.
