Engine photos of new G35 sedan
VQ35HR engine on the new G35 will have completely new dual intake system, similar to RS4 and M5. It will sound pretty sweet, especially with some mods.
Initial hp rating on this engine is 306, but Infiniti hasn't announced it "officially" yet. Some say it will higher than that. I think new 335i sedan might have edge over new G35 in terms of handling and maybe acceleration too. Some say the new G35 will hit 60mph in very low 5 sec. We need comparison test for 335i, new G35 and IS350. The new G35 will start at low $30K with long list of standard equipments (leather, HID, automatic with rev matching downshift and etc). Even if I add Sport Pkg or 18" performance wheel/tire Pkg, the new G35 will be still less than $35K. If I buy similarly equipped 335i sedan/coupe, it will be close to $45k or even more. 335i sedan would be a sweat car but $10K saving is a lot of money to ignore. I haven't made up my mind yet but this new G35 sedan looks promising. Last edited by luxman999; 08-16-2006 at 05:45 PM.. |

I think the sensors are the wires that are on the tube where the air flows into the engine. Right above each air box. The E90 has the same thing. (correct me if im wrong)

Here are some facts on the new G35 engine. It will have completely symmetric engine design, which means it will have dual intake, dual air filter, dual air flow sensor, dual exhaust and etc. With 7500rpm, it will be a one sweat engine, could be the best non-turbo engine in its class.
And get this, it will have standard limited-slip differential on the sport model, something that 335i doesn't offer at $45K. Infiniti wasn't kidding when they said 80% of this engine is new. This dual intake system is one serious looking engine, so far mostly offered by Audi RS seris and BMW M5. It will have killer sound. * HR stands for High Response (or High Revolution) * 5th Generation of the VQ. * Redline increase to 7500rpm * Higher compression ratio (10.6: 1 versus previous 10.3:1) * Redesigned block for increased rigidity (stiffer engine block structure) * Complete symmetrical intake and exhaust systems * Worldwide first hydrogen free DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) [hu] due to coding adoption decrease * New eCVTCS (electromagnetic variable exhaust cam timing) Setting electromagnetism VTC on exhaust cam side in addition to the oil pressure VTC of air inlet cam side, * Adoption of isometric exhaust manifold * New ram air dual intake, equal length exhaust manifold and dual exhaust system with laser-welded rear mufflers * Twin knock sensors * Improved cooling * New fourth generation VQ-series 24-valve 3.5-liter DOHC V6 producing an estimated 300-plus horsepower * New ram air dual intake, equal length exhaust manifold and dual exhaust system with laser-welded rear mufflers * Higher compression ratio (10.6: 1 versus previous 10.3:1), higher redline (7,500 rpm versus previous 6,600 rpm), new eCVTCS (electromagnetic variable exhaust cam timing), twin knock sensors, improved cooling and stiffer engine block structure * Refined electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission with * Downshift Rev Matching and DS mode and ASC (Adaptive Shift Control), or close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission * Rear-wheel drive * Magnesium paddle shifters on Sport A/T model * Standard rear viscous limited-slip differential with Sport models (5AT and 6MT) * Front engine/rear-wheel drive or ATTESA E-TS™ all-wheel drive (G35x AWD model) |

Oh, another thing I really like about this engine. DIPSTICK!!!
It has dipstick right in the middle for easy access. The BMW engine doesn't even offer one and force us to trust their electronic gizmo. I don't know about you guys, but I prefer to check the engine oil level by myself once in a while for little piece of mind. |

I've owned a g35 coupe before. I loved the sound of its exhaust. Everytime i see a g35 drive pass me and i hear that exhaust, it makes me really miss my car. However, im very curious about just how much torque this engine has. And its really only a 8 hp upgrade from the older engine which is 298 hp. I dont think a 8 hp difference is really that big of a difference, and if the new car is heavier, that'll just negate the extra hp. The only way i can see this car being faster than a 335i is if the car is significantly lighter than the older model. However, you put this engine in a 350z, then i think we'll have a good race between a 350z and a 335i. Its certainly possible, since they have the same engine already. And another thought, i have a feeling when infiniti comes out with the new coupe, they might up the displacement of the engine to say 3.7 liter or something like that. Remember the old g35 sedan first came in at 260hp and the coupe came out at 280 hp. I think they are going to do the same thing, maybe have the sedan come out at 306 hp and then when the coupe comes out, the hp gets bumped to 325hp or somethin like that. I think when the coupe comes out it'll give the 335i a run for her money. But the sedan will probably be a little slower.

The engine sounds nice and promising that's for sure but I'm just not a fan of th e car interior's at all. I have never driven a G35 myself but how are the quality of the materials used in this car?
This would be definitely a car of choice if you are under a budget because 10k is a lot of money to save. But we all know that the BMW just feels different even if it has less HP

The G is getting more then 8 hp bump if the new rating is 306.....My understanding is that the 298hp rating is not based on the new revised SAE hp ratings that took the TL from 270 hp to 258 and many other Asian cars dropped...Nissan is smart by calculating the old way on the old body so that on paper it looks like the car is so much ahead of the competition..... So if we revise the numbers I would estimate that the true hp numbers are Aprox. 285hp so if the one is rated at 306 using the revised standard then we have a bump of Aprox. 20hp. Thanks
