I guess the first thing to ask is: "what are your stats in college, DAT (if you have already taken it), and extracurricular activities?" That would dictate where you can go.

So the requirements that are important to you, in looking for an institution to pursue an advance education are: cheap, easy to get into, and offers you money to go there?

Just go into a different profession and tell mommy/daddy that you will no be going to dental school.

dental is one of those profession that it really does make a difference where you went to school i don't suggest you cheap out on a crappy school because you most likely won't make it big then. It's like med school you spend a crap load of money in school and then you plan on paying it back because you "Assume" you will make a lot of money..

my bad, scholaship.

yea this isn't a firm decision but 80% sure. I haven't even taken the DAT's because I have international business degree and would need to take all of the science classes before applying for schools. I guess I have few years to decide lol

Most dental schools that I looked at in the states are over $60K or more a year.
Dental schools are not easy to get into

Generally, most dental schools require these classes:

* 1 year of biology with lab
* 1 year of General Chemistry w/ Lab
* 1 year Organic Chemistry w/ Lab
* 1 year of English
* Other biology classes like genetics, anatomy, physiology, histology

If you go to a semester school, two semesters = 1 year. If you go to a quarter school, three quarters = 1 year.

Most dental schools want students with a 3.5 GPA or higher.

I am doing dental school in India starting September, I'll be done in four years, then I'm going to come to the states and do two or three years. Dental school is going to cost total $70K for four years

Oh yeah, take at least 5-7 months off and study hardcore for the DAT. If you have a high DAT score, more schools with take you. But if it is low, don't even apply, just re-take the test.

Best forum for pre-dental students...

if you go to medical school, you will be in serious debt immediately afterwards, but you will eventually have more than enough means to pay it off down the road.

i don't know how dental schools work but all medical schools in the US are QUALITY medical schools, no such thing as a bad school, just some with more prestige than others.

All it took was a week of internship at my dentist's practice to change my mind about wanting to become a dentist.

Note the word eventually. How long is eventual? Some of my classmates are walking out with 250-300K worth of loans. How long would it take for them to pay those back? God forbids you are very passionate about primary care and became a family doc, guess how much they make and how long it would take to pay back that mortgage without a house? Debt is driving medical students' choice of residency. There's no doubt about that. That's why people are choosing residencies like derm, rads, all surgical sub-specialties, and anesthesiology, and the competition to get those spots are getting more fierce by the year.

That is definitely not true. There are crappy schools in the US that you want to avoid like the plague.

If money is an issue, think about talking to the military. Someone I know joined the Air Force after undergrad school and is going to dental school free with pay. He will serve in the Air Force for so many years to pay back the cost, but he will be experienced after leaving the Air Force. The military is not for everyone, but it is very good for some. Good luck

Military is 2 for 1 but they can pull you out of residency after 1 year of internship and deploy you overseas. It's not the most ideal situation when your medical training is all fragmented although residency training is paid on an officer scale so you ended up making more money than what a normal resident would. I believe the difference is 15-20K a year between an intern in the army and an intern in the civilian world. So, it's not a bad deal for those that can stand living in the boonies during training and immediately after.

OK...can you please name me a U.S. medical school that is less than adequate? I would think that nearly all medical schools would be required to have standards that graduate highly competent PHYSICIANS.

Rosalind Franklin in Chicago for instance? It's a well known "safety net" school for applicants.

You are being too optimistic in our medical education. It's merely a business for a lot of schools.

Also, there are scary people in every medical school class that you want to alert your loved ones to avoid them at all costs.

Don't feel like arguing on this....but to call any U.S. MD school a "safety" school is insane..

To think that there aren't any safety school in the US is insane. Next time be really careful when you walk into a community hospital.
