DTC saved my life
In an undisclosed location at an undisclosed time at an undisclosed speed, I took a right hander WAY too quickly and braked mid corner while turning to initiate loss of traction. Let's just say there were huge trees surrounding me, and I fishtailed violently four or five times; the back kicked out way too much for comfort. The undisclosed drivers of the car behind me thought I was dead for sure. I had DSC off, but DTC on, and I countersteered in small increments, but basically the computer saved me from getting split in two.
Of course, after sobering up from the incident, I turned DSC fully on and cruised the rest of the way back. I just got home and I'm glad I'm alive. |

I've heard a lot stories like "DTC or DSC saved me again". I only see 2 reasons for turning it off. 1. If your stuck in snow 2. If your at the track.
Glad your OK. Thats just scary to think about.

Shim, I don't get it...you're too slow in the straight and too fast in the turns....something's not right
P.s. glad you're alright. Is this a new incident or the old incident?

Looking back at your initial description, wouldn't having the DTC off initiate a smoother and more controllable slide preventing the on-off upsetting fishtailing? I mean without the fishtailing, you could've rode out the slide, right?

Sounds too me you initiated drift by combination of feint and braking but maybe didn't modulate the throttle/steering well enough and also the DTC would have disrupted your drift momentum causing you to fishtail a few times. With the DTC off and with proper steering/countersteering and throttle modulation (and of course space and consistent traction) you should've no problem drifting smoothly and recovering.
Fishtailing is scary Bet you needed a fresh pair of 'fruit of the looms' after that incident

as usual, your video camera was nowhere to be seen....
Shim, save your drifting for the mazda event, just make sure you do it when you are about to leave...they will and can revoke your right to drive when they deem you too reckless....
