Was quoted $29.5 for New R32 w NAV today
Not bad. THe MSRP is $35K. $500/mon for a 5 yr finance. 0 Down. I have only test driven the A3 3.2 (which was a blast), but I have heard the R if fun to drive too. I guess there are slim picins for the R now since they discontinued. Two thoughts: 1) now is the best deal for this car since they are discontinued. 2) Dealers will try to jack the price u p since it is becoming a rarer commodity. What do you guys think?

The R32 will always be rare in the US, i would take one over an A3 any day. The problem is the mindset in the States though, this is not seen as a "classless" car as in Europe. For everybody Small=Cheap.

Test drove one before buying the 135... Kinda lacked the grunt and all around power of the 1, exhaust note is nice too but is a heavy car with limited tuning potential and the GTI is 90% of this car (minus the AWD) at 3/5ths the price... oh and expect a nice depreciation hit too unfortunately...

I'm really considering one as a winter beater for next year. It's kind of hard to justify with the A3 and WRX, but for 29.5, it's definitely something to consider since you're in Mass.

that's a good price....my fiance drives one, its a tight, fun car. She came from a Mini. Yes its a bit heavy, but it feels more nimble than my 335. With stock suspension it's a comfortable cruiser too.
The NAV is shit. it's from the 80's, just terrible, but hey, "eventually" it gets you there. the 3.2 loves gas too! ***if you can wait a year wait for the new 2.0T one....

The MKV R32 is a nice car, it comes with xenons, nice seats, and overall is built pretty well. The car only comes in DSG which is unfortunate. The GTI however is NOT 90% of this car with only AWD missing... the powerband is different, it is a VR6 instead of a 4 cylinder turbo. Stock people are seeing, meh... 14.5 quarter mile ish. It is a heavy car that is very capable but far from a scalpel. I would like to say I would own one but the limited tuning potential of it without significant upgrade (DSG can't handle many ponies without the aftermarket and F/I kits are WOWZA expensive) but you could always go with cam/exhaust and so on but expect a LARGE price tag for these items as well and not so much gain. The exhaust note is sublime but it has more bark than it does bite.
The bottom line: If you want one of the most well rounded cars built, bar none resale value and you don't care about going nuts with mods or being the fastest cat on the block... that is a good price and this is a good car. |

Thanks for the responses guys. I still have 2 years left to go on my bimmer lease. So this wont be an option, but I was curious about the price of these things anyways. If I was to push for one now, I would try to get the price down to 28Kish. Prob looking to buy a house in the next year. So If I could buy / lease something that was 10K less than the bimmer, that would be good. I will be interested to see what the next gen R has in store in about a year.

I wonder why no one just jump in here and say something like FWD sucks, FWD FTL, FTD = Wrong wheel drive...etc when talking about the R32, A3, Mini...etc.

Failed. R32 is AWD. So is the A3 3.2.

The MKV R32 is a solid car; I preferred the MKIV, but it tends to be more expensive to maintain.
If you like DSG, yay. I didn't, so I bought a 128 instead.
