To all 550e and or adaptive suspension drivers

Hi all,

Do any of you recognize that the adaptive suspension of the highway is not comfortable? I just came back from a trip to the alps and on the autobahn I was really annoyed with the comfort of the adaptive suspension. Bigger/medium bumps are done perfectly but little imperfections on the road (that you do not even see) seemed to be transferred without any dampening. I can literally feel it through the floor and in the seats in such a way that it is no longer comfortable (I am also used to a F82 M4).

Thx!

What were your tire pressures during that time?

Around the recommended pressure (2,5 bar) sometimes 0,1 bar higher or lower.

I have the 550e without the adaptive suspension and driving here in the US across interstates that are not as well maintained it does a good job. I don’t feel that the bumps are rough nor has my wife said she finds the ride uncomfortable and doesn’t want to take my car.

Lol. My wife says she doesn't find the seat comfortable, but doesn't want to take the time to adjust it like I have told her a bunch of times. She just likes to complain about it.

OP: Your post is quite upsetting for me since I was about to place a deposit on the same car — 550e with DHP. I had sworn to never get another BMW with the 704 suspension for exactly the reason outlined in your post. So I was quite hopeful the DHP would do the trick! Please keep us informed if there is a resolution to your issue.

Will do!

There's also a post on reddit about it:

However not really clear what suspension is talked about.

I forced her to take it to work and around the neighborhood to get the seat dialed in for her. Only time things got heated was when she was pulling into parking spots and I had to say stop before the bumper hit the concrete tire chalks as she has driven an SUV or higher car for longer than I can remember.

I came in from an Audi A4 (the B9 gen) so maybe I'm just used to stiffer, but I haven't had any issues with the adaptive suspension on my i5 xDrive40.

It's honestly been a lot smoother in general, even on some of the gnarlier roads in my area. There is one road that is super uncomfortable generally that I haven't been on yet, but even on the highway where construction has caused them to use the shoulder as part of a lane it feels way smoother than my old car.

When I made my wife drive around in the parking lot for the first time, she was fine until it came to parking. I warned her about how much lower the front end is than her SUV and to not hit the curbs, so she stressed out about knowing how close she is to curbs. She hasn't quite gotten used to using the parking camera for that purpose.

After that one time, she has not driven it again (her choice, not mine).
