Some of my iDrive Services are Ready for Renewal

I noticed the message below when I went online to look at my iDrive Store purchases. Does anyone know if the "video streaming" being referred to includes the YouTube app?

I have no interest in other video streaming services or games, but do like using YouTube every now and then.

For me this just gave me the AirConsole gaming services. YouTube, Tivo app, and Bundesliga app was already working prior to purchasing this.

No, the entertainment package is the Air Console games and the video/TiVo app (not You Tube which requires the eSIM for some unknown reason).

Putting in a personal eSIM means the car uses the data connection you provide/pay for and not the one installed by the factory in the car, which BMW pays to maintain.

I'm guessing YouTube is the only one BMW was afraid would burn through data quickly.

Yes, I get that and, as you said, maybe they figured You Tube would get more use than the standalone streaming app.

I declined my renewal. I played the games once to try them out. I didn’t really use the TiVo , but I did watch YouTube when the eSIM worked.

I watch movies on Tivo when it's my turn to pick my daughter up from school waiting in the car. I like the feature. I'm currently watching Terminator 2 in 30 minute chunks at a time while I wait. The AirConsole is ok, but I only play it to show off the feature. I like the soccer game the best.

I can see $60 for AirConsole and TiVO, but not $50 for welcome home lights. The other light patterns are barely different, and as an engineer it’s kind of offensive to me that they charge $50 for such a trival amount of software as compared what you get with the entertainment package for $60.

To me, the difference is that the entertainment package is a yearly fee, while the welcome lights is a one-time fee for the life of your account as owner of the car. Maybe they are not making more pay options like welcome lights because not enough people are buying them.

I'll say from coverage I'd seen before getting the car, I was expecting the AirConsole to be a bunch of no-name mobile type games. And it is mostly that, except they somehow pulled Overcooked? That's a good pull but I bet it controls awful with a phone as a controller.

Oh I didn’t realize it was one time. That is different. Are more substantial features like remote parking pro available as either subscription or one-time purchase? I have only demo mode in the app and it doesn’t show this area.

Porsche offered a lot of feature as either purchase outright when ordering a Taycan or subscriptions later and sometimes one-time purchase later. A lot of people used that but Porsche turned off Feature on Demand which meant that if you didn’t order the car with the feature, it can no longer be activated, even if you subscribed previously. Another part of the VW software fiasco.

Parking Assistant Pro is available as a 3 month trial. After that you can either subscribe either as a one month subscription, and I think there is a 90 day one, or is that 6 months. and a lifetime one. I use it all the time, so I paid for the lifetime one. it works very well.

Yes. When I bought the Parking Assistant Professional in July 2024, the lifetime price was $220 plus tax. Before, buying that I "bought" the longest free trial available at that time, which was 3 months long, and cost $5.50 plus tax, which was immediately refunded, therefore no actual charge on the credit card.

I have not seen a lifetime version of the Traffic Camera Information service though - only a yearly subscription for $25.
