Geeky Stuff
My 13 year old MacBook Pro is now happily running Sequoia (latest MacOS). Amazing how long these things last.

I'm afraid to ask how and if it is officially supported?
Ironically, I upgraded my 2017 13" MBP spare computer from Mojave to Ventura just last night, which seems to be the last supported MacOS version for that computer. Since the warranty is long voided ![]()

This guy's video is very good. I took his advice and used Disk Utility to erase the hard drive. I had to force a restart a couple times, but it finally went through. I think that was because I had previously (years ago) removed the DVD drive and replaced it with a second hard drive. I think it gakked when it was trying update the DVD drivers and couldn't find the DVD. Note: This process removes Apple's SIP, so there is a slight security risk there in that it makes it easier to accidentally install malware.

Very interesting. I have a MacBook Pro mid-2009 model that I have managed to keep alive. I have replaced the SATA flat tape cable twice. The battery once (needs it again) and upgraded the HDD to a SSD and replaced/upgraded both original sticks of RAM, as they caused boot errors. Also replaced the Wifi card located in the screen bezel. It was originally my sons, and failed while he was a Freshman at UofI CU.
Maybe I'll look into this, just for kicks. I stopped using it in 2020 when support ran out and it started struggling with newer webpages. It still has a working Superdrive and can be useful for streaming CDs.

After the Sequoia download the app said that I needed High Sierra before going to Sequoia. My machine was halted by Apple at El Capitan (10.11.06). I opted to go with Monterey (12.7.6) as an intermediate step. I did not do a clean install (wipe main SSD). This mid-2009 MBP came up on Monterey without a hitch and all previous files were intact!
Not sure if I will go to Sequoia. Might be too taxing on this 16-year old system. When I initially downloaded the program I was warned that my trackpad/mousepad was not supported.

Interestingly, now that I performed the upgrade to a level past El Capitan, Apple updates are offering me the latest Monterey update and Sequoia.
Thanks for the information on OCLP. I was utterly unaware this was possible.

Great point. It actually gave me a pop-up and asked me to allow that! Thanks.

Updated my 2012 Mac Mini to Ventura today. Takes almost 2 minutes to boot up, but then it works normally. I haven't made much use of it in a couple years, so now I guess I have to find a use for it. It used to be my main server and was running MacOS Server before they killed that off. It has two 1TB drives in it, but the one that used to be the data storage drive died and it's a royal pain to replace it, so it's still there taking up space and not doing anything.
