Communication Issuies

On my 2024 i5 M60 I keep having communication issues when using my phone as the key. On numerious occassions I'll walk up to the car and nothing happens. Will have to restart my phone for the car to open and start. Tried just turning bluetooth or airplane mode off / on but that doesn't work. Anyone else have the same problem? Using Samsung S24 Ultra.

I've had that sporadically in the past, but usually it's just because I'd been hanging out near the car for too long and it goes to "sleep". When that happens, I just put my hand into the door handle area as if to open it, then wait up to 10 seconds, and it usually unlocks. Try that to see if it works for you.

I’m in the same situation with Skyking - if you walk past and it locks/unlocks 2 or 3 times without a door being opened, then the car goes to sleep and ignores the phone. Grabbing the handle normally wakes it up again.

A small clarification for what I see with my car... I can walk by a large number of times causing it to lock and unlock over and over. That doesn't seem to put it to sleep. For me, it goes to sleep if I stay near it too long without opening the door (like if I'm working in the garage and forget to leave my key far enough away from the car). After the initial unlock, it will eventually lock, and won't unlock again unless I put my hand in the door handle, or sometimes walk away for a period of time and come back.

That's what I've observed so far at least.

Very interesting observations. I had noticed something similar the past few days when I didn't go out but walked near enough to the garage many times to trigger the lock/unlock cycles which continued over the entire several days without the car going to sleep. You might be on to something.

The mysteries of BMW never cease. Mine seems to be the multiple lock/unlock cycles, but who knows?

Had a senior moment today. Opened the trunk with a foot swipe, tossed in my jacket, pressed the close button and the trunk closed only to reopen again ?
Repeating the process again and again, it kept reopening.
Yes, I had left my phone (digital key) in the jacket and the trunk refused to close until I realised. After I had removed it it closed no problem ! Nice feature.

That's good, but mine doesn't seem to do it. I regularly lock my phone (Digital Key) in the center console when I park the car in the shipyard and I am going to a location where cellphones are not allowed (Because I have before and have to put my phone outside the space. Then promptly forget it once I leave only to have to go back and get it once I get to my car and realize I forgot it.). But maybe it's allowing it because it senses I have the fob in my pocket.

Could be. I had the digital key (card) in my back pocket but I am not sure that the car would of detected it from where I was standing. So maybe the trunk refused to close because there was no other key detected ?

The car cannot detect the key card unless it’s physically in contact with the door unlock area or inside in the charging tray.

So maybe as no other key was detected the car would not close the trunk ?

I know my Range Rover is like that. You cannot lock the car if there are keys present in the car. It does a Beep Beep and stays open. Of course it also does that if all the doors are not shut all the way. So you have to figure it out.

My wife's 2024 Honda Pilot is like that, too. If it's in for service and we ask them to lock the fob in the car (since I have the other fob and will be driving her to pick it up after hours), the answer is "we can leave the fob in the car, but we can't lock it."

Handy when you otherwise would accidentally lock the keys in the car, but frustrating in this circumstance.
