540i Mild Hybrid System

With regards with the mild hybrid B58 on the 540i, I noticed on photos that there is no longer a switch to turn off the auto start/stop. I'm guessing the 48v electric motor provides a smoother transition from stop and go traffic so longer a necessary function to manually deactivate the auto start/stop.

If that's the case, my question is whether the AC turns off when the vehicle is at a traffic stop with the mild hybrid setup. I noticed in previous BMW loaner vehicles without the mild hybrid when auto start/stop is not deactivated, the AC will turn off when the vehicle is at a stop which is annoying esp in hot summer months and you're stuck in traffic. If that's the case and you can't manually deactivate the feature, will the 550e as a PHEV be the better option?

The auto start/stop can be turned off from the menu now. It also has a pretty nice shortcut to do that on my car (and I think all of them since I don't see it as one of the shortcuts that you can assign) by just moving your finger from top to bottom on the navigation as you do on your phone.

If you want ~40 niles of eletric driving plus the B58 engine, then the 550e is for you. I love it because it gives me the best of both worlds, smooth electric driving for most of my commutes and then the awesome B58 engine when either the charge is gone or its set to sport mode. As far as auto start stop and switching from electric to ICE, its seamless.

BlueString I took a photo earlier with the auto start/stop shortcut.

start/stop

Thank you for the widget dashboard. Could you please tell me how you "got" to the turn off for the start/stop. I have a 2025 540i and was told I cannot turn it off; the manufacturer wanted it to be so.

I don't have auto-start stop so I can't say for certain, but you should be able to search for the word "auto" or "start" and find it in the menu within the car. See pictures below as an example.

As long as you have the latest iDrive version (which I think is 2024.07 or later) you should be ok.

As I previously said, I swiped the display from top to bottom as you do with your phone and that display appeared.
