Driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas

I may be driving from the Los Angeles area to Las Vegas on Sunday. Has anyone done this trip recently? Any suggestions regarding where to stop to charge/eat/stretch the legs along the way? I think I can get there with no stops if I need to, but the wife and I will want to stop at least once for a bite and bathroom break, so I figured I could do some charging as well.

I think the app has me stopping somewhere near Victorville, but I don't remember.

Lol. I always found driving on long trips with the wife always takes 30-50% longer because of the extra Restroom stops.

Normally I would agree with you, but to my amazement (and hers), my wife and I took an almost 10 hour drive last year from Kalamazoo, Michigan to Franklin, New York and did it with only 1 stop! I was shocked, but my wife said it was the most comfortable seat she's been in for years. That was in a Kia Sportage rental we had at the time. She was certainly a trooper that day.

Curious where you end up charging. I know you can theoretically make it on a full charge, but I also feel like stopping for a bite somewhere along the way is part of the tradition of driving to Vegas from SoCal, so may as well charge up while you eat.

Last time I drove it was with an ICE engine. Always stopped in Barstow, which felt kinda crowded for a lunch stop honestly.

It's been so many years since I last did this drive, I don't even remember where we usually stop. Maybe my wife will remember. If I don't get any particular recommendations, and the wife doesn't have a preference, I'll probably let the car tell me which Electrify America spot to stop at, and just see how good or bad a job it does.

I remember reading a post from someone a while back who did this drive, but I don't remember who it was. I'm hoping they will see this thread and chime in. :-)

Baker is where we usually stop for gas/stretch/coffee between OC and LV. Not fine dining options, but Del Taco is good enough for a snack ;-). Don’t like stopping in Barstow or Victorville unless you’re needing a Double Double!

There’s a large charging station at Baker too, mostly SuperChargers but there are some L3 banks of CCS (Electrify America, I think).

I think it’s going to depend on whether or not you have any 100mph+ experiences like AiredaleDad. The last time I did that stretch was in my Audi A5 Sportback. I was traveling with a friend, and decided to let him drive, while I took a nap. I’d driven from the Bay Area down to that point.

He wasn’t use to German cars. Imagine my surprise when I woke up, casually talking to him, and him responding in a relaxed tone, only to open my eyes and glance over to see that we were comfortably cruising along at 110mph. I had to reel him in and remind him that while the Audi didn’t care, the Nevada Highway Patrol did. lol 😂

Contrast this to the Chevy Malibu I rented to go pick up my 5’er from the detailer yesterday, which sounded like the Enterprise attempting to cross warp 9.9 at 70mph. 😄

Barstow is the “traditional” stopover spot, but I haven’t done this drive in an EV. There are many supercharger stations on the route. I believe EA has some larger stations in Barstow and Baker. As far as when you arrive in Vegas, EA did recently upgrade a lot of the stations to the newer 350kw units, so reliability has been a bit better as of late.

Lol. You always NEED a Double Double. Especially when you live overseas and can't get one on a regular basis.

Are you taking the back way? Pearblossom? Assuming that's the way you're going since you're in Santa Clarita. That'll drop you off right at the top of the Cajon in Apple Valley/Victorville. You could stop there or keep driving down the 15 to Barstow (shopping outlets there). Keep driving to baker, that's another usual stop just before you start the downhill drive to the state line. not much at the state line or primm to stop for, just push to Vegas if you don't stop in Baker IMO....safe travels...there are a few charges at whiskey pete's IIRC. Eddies world in Yermo has tesla chargers, not sure if they other chargers there....

Yeah, I put the destination into the app and it has me going along Pearblossom Highway. The app suggests a short stop at Baker, but we'll probably stop sooner like Barstow or Victorville, depending when we're hungry and when the wife feels like she wants a break. Worst case, I can always add a short stop in Baker if the chargers at our other stops are full or not working. Thanks for the info!

Both Hesperia and Barstow have food and restroom near. Walmart shopping mall at both. In Baker she’ll Station near.
No matter the percentage left charge up
In baker. I do it two reasons
1- 80% rest of way is uphill
2- get to vegas with plenty battery charger always very busy (too many under/Lyfts)
Or at least
Fill up at Primm. By the lottery store which has bathrooms too if early when open.
If you go through hwy58 can charge at Mojave at the Comfort Inn has 4 350kW chargers. Then can make it to baker or Primm. I stop like twice on every trip. I have my fur babies so walk them. Plus my Ankylosis Spondylitis on back need to stretch often. At least every 80-100 miles. Plus my mode being I sport and my heavy foot (everybody wants to pass me can’t let that happen I’m getting to vegas first, hahaha) I charge up to 80% twice no matter the % on car. By time my ChowChow finds a spot worthy of peeing on car is charged up. Meet my girls

Thanks for the info! I like the idea of charging in Baker so that I have lots of juice while in Vegas.

On the way home, I should probably top up in Baker again if I don't get charged somewhere local while in the city.

In the city I know would recommend Premium South Outlet Las Vegas and Warm Spring.
Other is behind Caesar Palace there is entrance to the Forum shop from chargers.
By the house off 215 on Rainbow Walmart center 4 new 350Kw charger and other on Target by RedRock casino.
Not sure where you staying. But those at e safe. Other spots are shady
The outlets are very busy since the airport near so Uber/Lyft sometime fill up all spots and
Leave car there until 100%
