G60 550e Battery Capacity Warranty Language
Hi All, while surfing the Internet I got a BMW ad directed towards me for the i5 M60 (imagine that, me getting a BMW Ad 😏.
At any rate, I happened to read the comments on Facebook people had written, and thought this would be an interesting topic, specifically related to the 550e. People were complaining and advising people not to purchase a hybrid BMW. Three or four people all had the same problem they were fighting with BMW with; battery capacity. Most stated that over 4-5 years of ownership capacity on their hybrid vehicles had decreased to below 50%. Needless to say this severely limited their ability to use them in all electric mode. All claimed to be doing battle with BMW on the matter who has taken up the position that the warranty only applies for complete failure and not capacity. Granted these were older models, but is anyone aware as to how how (or if) this has been called out in a warranty for new ones? What would happen after 4 years of ownership if capacity was 40% for example? Last edited by ToddRGuy; 12-14-2024 at 08:15 AM.. |

My G20 Hybrid was just under 5 years old and 70k miles when I sold it. Used it as a proper hybrid for town running and charged to the 13kw 100% max regularly from my wallbox. Virtually no capacity / range loss and had zero issues during ownership. A friend still has a G20 from the same time and no change with his either.
Even my F30 with the older gen phev and only 7kw battery held up well for near 4 years. There was no noticeable range loss but it was such a small capacity anyway. Obviously these were previous generations of phev batteries compared to the 550e and I expect the new generation will be fine as well. I charge to 85% now with the larger capacity and only occasionally 100% if required. With my bmw phev experience, I have absolutely no worries for the 550e. |

I genuinely worry about inferring anything from a Facebook community. I’ve yet to see anything consistent like that on these forums. The general public is so uninformed with this stuff, but usually love to pretend they know everything. I see this a lot as my wife is part of a jeep Facebook group.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they are battling it right now bc it’s winter and they lack the understanding that their capacity is halved due to the cold weather. |

Hybrid batteries you are referring to are very small, and likely get cycled far more and also depend a lot more on customer use. Some customers don’t even charge them. Literally it just stays flat for months on end and only slightly recharges during some regen |
