How not to shut itself when spending time in the car?

When I am sitting in my car, I want the headlights to not be on, the air conditioners to work and the car not to shut itself off after a while. Whenever I try to spend time in the car, it shuts down the internet and everything and I have not been able to solve this problem. The headlights are always on at night. When they are off, I sometimes sleep or want to spend time in the car quietly at school, unfortunately it does not work.

I have not tested the shutting off after a while thing, but I sometimes arrive at my destination at night, and need to wait for my friends to arrive. So, I sit in the car and wait. If I press the off button, all the exterior lights turn off but the climate control and music etc. all stays on. I can sit in the car in the dark, with no lights on and listen to music and stay warm or cool, until my buddies arrive.

I don't usually do this for longer than 5-10 minutes though, so I don't know if the car will shut off the screens and services after a longer time. How long does it take for stuff to shut off when you are in there at night (roughly)?

Maybe this will help too: another situation is when my wife and I go to a store, and I have to go in for something, but she stays in the car and waits. When that happens, after I shut off the car, on the center screen I select the option to activate climatization (or whatever it's called), and to turn off the alarm just once. That way, after I leave the car and it detects that my phone (digital key) is no longer nearby, it will keep her cool/warm in the car and it will not set off the alarm if she opens the door or window, etc.

I think the second situation above is only necessary though when you leave the car and it no longer detects the key nearby. If you are going to keep the key in the car while you sit there, I don't think you have to fiddle with that stuff on the center console, but you can try it.

After 15 minutes it turns off the systems. It is so annoying for me because the heating system also turns off. I tried air conditioning setting when we leave the car to be open but still it turns off about 15 minutes later. I also tried pressing start stop button 3 times and acvating diagnose mode. Still same isue happens. I have to sleep at car sometimes between my course schedule and my home is far away so I sometimes park my car to a nice place and get some rest in the car.

The 15 minute power down has been around for a while. My previous 5’s have done this. I never found any way to prevent it. Possibly it could have been coded, though I never ran across it.

Have you tried leaving the car in the ON position and playing a long YouTube video and turning off the sound (like an 8 or 12 hour video)? Perhaps a constant streaming demand would prevent the auto-shutoff feature from triggering.

Regarding the headlights, what happens when you disable the Auto setting? Do they shut off? In my country, I think there will always be "running" lights as long as the car is ON.

On my F10s, I turn the headlights to OFF position and disable daytime running lights in iDrive if I want to have the car powered up but not running for an extended time such as coding to avoid running down the battery.

I think it stays on if I push the start without starting the engine (don’t press brake pedal), but I know it insists on shutting down after 15 minutes if I just sit in the car after shutting off the engine.

We need a “camp mode”. Or “drive-in mode” (do drive-ins still exist?). It aggravates me that you can’t disable the running lights in any mode - some sort of Canadian law…

Lol. Yes, drive-ins do still exist. There is one here on base in Rota, Spain, and There was one in Bremerton, WA. The problem is that modern cars don't like sitting with the engine off, and there is no way to turn off all the lights. I know you can do it in my 2013 Range Rover, but after 15 min it wants to shut the car down to preserve the battery. So we never go.

Nice to know. It's like 5 min from my house there. But unless they come up with a "Drive-In mode" where it shuts off all the lights we won't be able to use it.

Today, I was sitting in the car for over an hour while I waiting for my wife at the hospital ER (she was visiting her sister), and I turned the car off and started watching YouTube. After about every 30 minutes, the below screen came up. I tapped the "Yes, keep using" button and things kept working fine. I'm not sure what would have happened if I didn't tap anything, but I suppose according to what others have said, the car would eventually shut off huh? I was able to watch a 1 hour video using the YouTube app in the car and got this message twice. Everything else kept working, like the climate control etc. Just thought I'd share this in case it means something or is helpful to anyone.
