I had the pleasure of flogging one of those with R Comps on it a few times while instructing at an autocross. Beastly car that sounded incredibly mean. It has the M5 v8 in it. It did handle heavily (not heavenly) though. It's more suited for the track, due to the weighted feel, even though it's only a couple hundred pounds more than our 1ers.

It's actually one of 3 BMW cars featured in Bond movies when BMW had the product tie-in agreement. The other two were the Z3 in Goldeneye (a whole lot of hype for ~10 seconds of screen time), and the E38 7 series in Tomorrow Never Dies.
