BimmerUtility

Anyone out there that has the BimmerUtility Dongle. Can you tell me if the Smartphone Integration is selected on your FA? I have noticed that mine has RadioControl US selected, but Smartphone Integration is not. I wonder if that's part of why my Android Auto is not working.

Can you tell me what the code is for that? I have a print out of my FA, but it only shows me the three-character codes that I have selected and not the descriptions of each.

I guess, another way to put it is this: here are the codes currently in my FA. The only one I removed was 5AP for the anti-dazzle - otherwise, this is how the car arrived from the factory.

It was 6CP. You don't have it either. So much for that theory.

I don't even see that code in the ordering guide for the car. It might be a code used by other BMW models, but not the i5 or 5 series.

6CP is Carplay. Must be elsewhere in the G series

I confirmed that it is not working. I am waiting for the next OTA update to see if that kicks it in.

How do you connect BimmerUtility? Do you follow the same procedure as with BimmerCode?

The dongle fits in the OBD port and uses either a WiFi signal it creates or supplied Ethernet cable. I use the Wifi and have the App on my phone.

You did not understand my question... for BimmerCode you had to follow the steps below. Do you need to follow the same steps for BimmerUtility, too? I tried to Google for it and could not find any answer, or maybe I did not pay enough attention.

1. Turn on the ignition in the car. For G-Series cars the diagnostic mode has to be activated additionally (press the start button in the car three times in quick succession without pushing the brake or clutch pedal).
2. Please make sure that the engine is not running.
3. Ensure that no gear is engaged (selector lever position P for cars with automatic transmission) and that the parking brake is on.
4. Make sure all electrical consumers (lights, heating, ventilation etc.) are turned off.
5. Disconnect or disable any third party hardware installed to the car that is connected to the CAN bus (e.g. JB4, rear view camera, exhaust flap control), because the communication may be interfered and coding may fail in this case.
6. The headunit has to be in its original state. If you used a third party solution to enable CarPlay or the navigation has been unlocked, these changes have to be reverted, because BimmerCode will not allow coding the headunit otherwise. Retrofitted iDrive systems may also not be accessible under certain circumstances.

Try looking at the Getting Started section of the support page. You might find what you are looking for there.

https://www.bimmerutility.com/support

For example, the Android section includes the following.

ANDROID:

- WIRED ENET:

1. Make sure that no other apps are running in the background that may be using the OBD adapter. If necessary, force quit them.

2. Insert the adapter into the OBD port.

3. Turn on Airplane mode on your Android device.

4. Go to Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Ethernet > Configure Ethernet device.

5. Select "Static IP" and enter the following details (Ethernet tethering may need to be enabled on some mobile devices.):

IP Address: 169.254.250.250

Netmask: 255.255.0.0

Default gateway: 1.1.1.1

DNS address: 1.1.1.1

6. After entering the details, disconnect the cable and connect it again to allow the changes to take effect.

7. On the app's start screen, tap "Connect."

- WIRELESS ENET:

1. Make sure that no other apps are running in the background that may be using the OBD adapter. Force quit them if required.

2. Connect the adapter to the OBD port.

3. Disable Bluetooth on your Android device.

4. Enable Wi-Fi on your Android device.

5. Turn on Airplane mode on your Android device.

6. In your Android Wi-Fi settings, locate and connect to the adapter network.

7. Keep the distance between your Android device and the adapter as close as possible.

8. On the app's start screen, tap "Connect."

Yeah, what he said. I usually am sitting in the driver's seat and have no connection issues.

Just last night, I followed the Android wireless instructions last night exactly, and got connected the first time. Worked like a charm with BU. However, I was unable to connect with BimmerCode that I downloaded. Not sure why - maybe the BU OBD is not compatible with BimmerCode? Not sure.
