Infiniti's Answer to the 1 series?

A baby G37 Coupe talked about at the Infinity 360 Event in Portugal that might launch in 2010.

Wasn't the G35 supposed to be the 3 killer? How did that work out for them? I mean, nice car and all but it isn't going to kill off anything BMW produces (and probably will fall a little short of what BMW produces). I guess somebody has to set the standard everyone else guns for.

Whats with people having to compare products like that. 'something' killer. Pepsi the Coke killer? g35 is the 3 killer. that concept the 1 killer. Various mp3 players the ipod killer and now various phones the iphone killer. Do people really hate other products that much?

Yea just seems a little weird to me. I test drove a g37 and my buddy has a 05 350z which I have had the chance to drive a bunch of times although both very nice cars, there suprisingly was not a whole lot of difference between the two. The G has a little more power and nicer interior than the Z. Even if they do come out with a smaller version of the g37 it will be another Z. I dont think the 1 has a serious competitor in my book.

This is coming from someone who was dead set on a g37 then test drove a 1 series. After that it was a done deal! lol

i love the narrow mindedness in this thread.. surely a company like Honda, which btw is leaps and bounds beyond BMW, could create cars that not only defeat the evenly categorized competition, but also provide longer lasting vehicles as well as better resale value...

not questioning the abilities of BMW, but some people need to look around before they start cutting down other companies....

You just did exactly what you spoke against. I agree people need to stop bashing other companies, but same could be said for those bashing on our BMWs and same could be said for any product that is ahead in its own category. But after looking at it all, it will never end. There will be a leader in anything; be it cars, electronics, surfboards...anything. And those on top will always have people hating on them, and the people that support the ones on top, will hate on the ones below them. But coming out and stating what you just said is pretty arrogant in itself. And btw, my cousin has been through the whole Honda stage in his life, owned 4 and he was always working on them. My dad has also been working on BMW's hes had throughout his life. If you treat a car real well, it will show the same back in most cases. And with cars nowadays, theres not much of a dif. anymore.

Speaking for myself, I have had hondas and acuras my whole life im with you on resale value and longevity. I had a 94 accord a few years back and sold it with 265k miles, all original transmission and engine ran like it had 60k miles. My last car an 06 civic si which I still have as well as a 97 nissan maxima both I love to death and when its time to sell will be worth every penny. But there are lemons in every make of vehicle no matter how much they cost.

I believe in being an informed consumer and thats why I do great deal of research prior to spending my hard earned money on anything much less a car. Its a matter or choice, opportunity and in some cases ability to be able to purchase the vehicle you want.

There are narrow-minded people who go from riding a bike to driving a lambo, from what I have seen on this forum we tend be a very open minded community of addicts!

That new "sub-G37" sized coupe Infiniti might be comming out with is rummored to be getting a 2.5 liter ~230 hp VQ engine if it happens. It would compete nicely with the 128i on price and performance I would imagine, but not the 135i. The new 3.7L Z is supposedly being tuned to 345 hp and should fall in line pricewise with the 135i

Wow 3.7L. How much bigger will they go? Hope they make it more efficient too. I would then be more interested. The G and Z are starting to blend together and its bothering me hehe.

3.7L.... in something the size of a 1? that thing is gonna be front heavy like a mo-fo!

i find it a compliment that anything is termed the "1-killer". that would lead me to believe that we are the king that must be dethroned. iPhone, Wii, Coke, 135i... not bad company to be in!

2010....LOL.....1-Killer....LOLLOL. I see this concept being a 230 VQ engine as best.

Now the 370Z will need to push itself back from the auto buffet line before it's going to be a killer of anything.

what i meant by "leaps and bounds" is that Honda makes cars, lawn equipment, motorcycles, jets, ATVs, and probably lots of other things that we don't know about.. so to think that a company such as Honda doesn't have their shit together is being plainly naive....

you can't base the entire company review on the most expensive and powerful car they make either... in the end whichever car sells the most is going to be the best $ buy, not some $70k+ coupe or convertible... if a 3 series is the most common car on the road, then you can bet it's a good car...
