Tire Pressure Source of Truth

Am I imaging this, but I feel like the recommended pressure PSI has changed over time in vehicle status. At one point I could have sworn it matched the tire and loading information label on the door.

Either way, what would you consider the source of truth?

I am pretty confident that the iDrive display factors in higher ambient temperatures real time and adjusts tire pressure targets accordingly.

Now if it would only adjust the air to match its computer calculations, that would be impressive. Well, until its algorithm caused your tires to explode.

Found this interesting screen in the app. I guess when I'm adjusting tire pressures, I should pull it up from within the car to know true pressures as I make adjustments.

Take note that the label on the door jamb says COLD...the idrive TPM will give recommendations for tires that have warmed up.

Thank you all. I’ll make sure to pull up the app when I’m adding air.

This brings up another curiosity. How often are you guys checking and adding air? Since I have my own compressor, I feel like I’m a bit neurotic in the effort to extend the life of my tires. I have a TODO to do it once a month?

Honestly not topping up very often - tire pressures seem very stable so far.

I have a compressor as well. I only added air when I had a slow leak from a puncture.

I've done it once so far when it was down a couple psi.

BTW, I've got the Tire Pressure screen as a shortcut so it's easy to find.

Well thanks to physics, your tire pressures go up with the ambient temperature anyway ;-)

Unless there is a tire leak or damage, I find BMW tire pressure holds quite well. Of course, when we have those " California cold snaps" where our mornings are 28-32F, this will cause the TMPS to go off. When I was learning to drive at 15, my mom & dad taught me to check my tire pressure 1-2x a month, and so I have done this for a long time. Perhaps no longer needed, but old dog/new tricks

Oh, I still check mine monthly too. Audi is weird, it doesn’t display the pressure, but it notifies you when it gets “too low” whatever the hell that value is. It’s ambiguous so I still check it. With the G60, I probably won’t.

It’s not Physics that concerns me…it’d be their Algorithm. I can see it now; They update the software and the auto-inflation screen says you’ve got 59 psi in every tire 😅
