i5 lease - use broker?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but anyway, assuming my car is totaled, I will likely lease another i5. I’ve bought several BMW’s thru my local dealer, but after messing around with the Edmunds lease calculator it seems that I’ve been beat up pretty bad on some of my deals.
Would anyone recommend using a broker for the process? I don’t know how it works if they’re based out of state, but I assume some of these guys have relationships with dealerships they prefer. Maybe it’s a better deal but maybe it’s not worth the hassle? Any thoughts?

They do. That's what makes a good broker a good broker. They have relationships with customers and they have relationships with dealers. Dealers can also contact brokers if they want to sell vehicles badly. It's not that they're in cahoots with each other, it's that dealers cannot advertise deals in the open because of manufacturer restrictions. Having a broker (or a closed off website) allows them to bypass this. Dealer gives brokers deals and they bring in customers. They won't work with brokers who can't bring in people because the dealer will just be losing money.

Also, majority of these dealers/brokers are in high population, high demand states where volume is key. You're not gonna get a good deal from middle-of-nowhere Alabama.

I recommend perusing leasehackr.com (especially the forum) to get an idea how this all works.

I'm a "car" guy and go thru leases pretty frequently. I've never used a broker but have reached out to them a number of times.

I find that they have a good ceiling...Meaning you can definitely get a good deal with a good one. But, if you put in the time and effort, you can get a slightly better deal on your own. Esp. if you have a trade in.

So, if you don't like the hassle of negotiating with dealership or have the time, I think it could be a good resource. If you are like me (paranoid and have FOMO) and need to get the best deal and have time, you are better off on your own. LOL...

I haven't leased from any of these guys yet but reached out to at least 3 of them when I was in a tight spot. They all had decent offers and were quick to respond.

I ended up scoring a last day of the month deal through the dealer I've been using for years. Who's also out of state BTW, WA state is notorious for offering bad deals pretty much on any makes.

Agreed. I lived in Seattle a lot of years on and off before I moved to Spain for a few years. The problem with WA dealers (Seattle area in particular) is they think they live on an island. Most people aren't going to run to Portland to find a better deal. Let alone run over the mountains to Idaho. So they can be difficult to get a good deal from. Land Rover Seattle got pissed at me when I couldn't' get a good enough deal from them and went south to Newport Beach, CA to buy my Range Rover Sport. Then brought it to them for service. They didn't want to give me a loaner because they reserve them for people who buy cars from them. Until I talked to the GM. I told him I had bought 2 previous Landy's from them, and just because the SM is new he doesn't get to be an A$$hole to me because the License plate frame says Land Rover Newport. He fixed it and informed the guy that he had the whole "Customer Service" part all wrong.

If you want to do the shopping around you can probably get as good, or better, deal that with a broker but in addition to putting in that time you may have to go out of state/PCD to pick it up or arrange for shipping. It is often less expensive and a lot less hassle to have a broker do it.

Two that have consistently done well for our members are Scott at Insight smithf80 and Dan at a Next Level Auto Brokers .

brokers are what they are- work with dealers to find disposable cars and sell them at a better than average rate and get a cut.

What is your definition of "disposable cars"?

Okay, sounds like you aren't aware of how brokers work and the service they provide. They can get very good discounts on custom builds not just some vehicles that need to be moved.

I don't think any one of my thousands of customers would describe working with us as hassle, or more of a hassle than working with a dealer, or contacting 50 dealers and playing their games hoping to get the best price when we can skip to it in 5 minutes.

I have people who know what they want that call me and get their whole deal done in 10 minutes on the phone with me, saving thousands without ever having to ask for it.

We're always happy to help, email me anytime, scott@insightautoconsulting.com

I had never used a broker of any sort before I leased my G60. Life was extraordinarily hectic, and I had zero desire to play games with doing all the usual legwork. I used a broker (who has a strong presence on this forum and on Leasehackr)-- he and the dealer rep took care of everything electronically while I was on the road for business, I got a car that was a 95% match for the spec I would have ordered, and a price that I was very happy with. Given how valuable time and avoiding hassle was for me at that moment, it was an excellent decision.

Not passive aggressive at all, was trying to be nice rather than saying you don't have a clue about what you are talking about. Was that better?

Not necessarily. I used a broker to get a custom order for a far better price than the local dealers were offering. So, it's not necessarily limited to cars on the lot. Custom orders through brokers are also very possible.

I ONLY do custom orders for my last 5 leases, and have done the last two with a broker. Couldn't have been an easier experience, fully custom order, handled very quickly, and knew exactly what I was going to pay.

It's going to depend a little on the area. Here in the northeast, a broker might be able to put through 30+ orders per month through a dealer. So many dealers are incentivized since they have a no cost rep generating numbers and earning a small vig.

Dealer makes money and quotas moving product, broker makes money, and the customer gets a deal that is hard to replicate.
