Had a few passports back in my youth when all I did was use the street as a race track. Majority of the time it saved my butt.

I have owned many radar detectors from Cincinnati Microwave and Valentine One.

As previously mentioned, the V1G2 and Waze is the best combination out there.

RIP Mr. Valentine

Sad news indeed. Have been a V1 user pushing 30 years. Mike Valentine really did innovate in an industry that was very gray market in it's infancy. His contributions in Cincinnati microwave transformed the detector market.

I remember upgrading from my Fuzzbuster 2000 to the Passport RD was like moving from a Blackberry to an iPhone. Then when I moved to the Valentine One I never went back.

RIP Mike

In less than 2 weeks received the unit back fixed with the check returned uncashed. Both times I called and was told by the V1 rep the repair was a no charge repair.

RIP Michael Valentine.

I still have my V1 too, and I still like it a lot. Has saved me countless times.

And my speaker stopped working, so I sent it in for a replacement, and they fixed it, updated it, and sent it back...and all I had to pay for was shipping.

Got his Escort in 1980 and moved up to the Passport several years later. Was lucky to meet & chat with him & Peggy several times. Great people.

Love the old school approach. Originally purchased my V1 back in '96. Never had a problem with it, unit was solid.

Finally made the move to a G2 V1 unit this year after putting off upgrading as it always served me well on long interstate trips. Shocked to see they still had a G1 trade-in program in place (28 years later) for credit towards a Gen 2 unit. Almost unheard of to see a company in place for this amount of time while still recognizing and support legacy products.

Had the pleasure of hearing him speak in our business class at the University of Cincinnati back in 2005ish. He was a very nice guy and you could tell how passionate he was with what he created! Lost a good one!
