Setting it STRAIGHT 💯

Theres ALOT of criticism of the G60 (especially in comparison to the G30) and I'd like to set the record straight... People can get an excellent deal on a '24 now that the new ones are becoming more common and there are quite a few misconceptions here regarding the G60. I had to bump up from a G30 as I had a black one, living in the desert, which was stupid. Also, it had slipping issues as it was rear wheel drive so it had to go!
My salesman really didn't want to sell me one. He actually sneered when he told me the only 540 he could get me was 300 miles away and "greeeen" (flatulance noise under his breath). When I finally got in the car his big sales pitch was a litany of complaints about, "the buttons being gone". Those microscopic buttons with no labels??? The ones that I almost died, multiple times, trying to push while driving 85 down the highway??? Good riddance!!! This was a MAJOR improvement in my book...
Then he started to mope about the 14.9 inch display... Gee, what exactly is the difference with the G30 and its 2 screens and this one? I know!!! Its really cool and raised so you feel like Buck Rogers cruising down the street.. I LOVE IT!!! Its like driving a phone... Do you have trouble with your phone and its apps? Then you won't have trouble with this!!! Its so easy a moron like me can master it in five minutes! Its beyond intuitive and simple with its customized shortcuts... You'd have to be dull normal to have issues here!
But the JOY of this ride is the comfort and the POWER!!! Its like riding a rocket pillow down the avenue... The G60 is much more comfy than the G30 (no comparison). And when I floor it I can feel the little hairs on my gouch start to tingle!!!
So the critics can moan about the G30 and its glory days but having just traded one in for the G60, I can stoutly affirm that it is a shadow of the newer model. The new one is comfier, faster and without question, more stable. I dog the sht out of it and have the best time! I suppose I'll get used to it eventually but until then its like Christmas every time I open the door... The G60 is the sweetest bimmer I've ever driven and the B58 is their craziest engine yet (like riding a crack-addled horse). And the prices on the '24s are dropping fast... Everyone should take one for a drive and experience the difference! I'm gonna grow old with mine...

Sounds like your salesman was one of those Old School Purists!!! I can't believe he didn't' want to sell you one. Maybe he was using reverse psychology. Or he thought he could either up-sell you on a 7 series or push a 530 he had sitting on the lot. I have heard of there actually being a shortage of 540iX's in the US right now. I don't think there were a lot of them made in the 2024 MY run, since it didn't come out in the beginning. I believe because they wanted to flood the market with the more affordable 530i and 530iX, as well as the I5 BEV's. So if you wanted more power than a 530i, you pretty much had to go Electric if you wanted a 5er. Maybe they will come in after all of us that have custom orders on the 2025's get ours. I personally can't wait for mine to finally get here so I can stop dreaming about it and start driving it.

You are gonna LOVE it!!! The wait will be worth it.. And I agree with your availability point. There was ONE '24 540i in town so I bought the green one that had sat in LA for six months as it had acid rain stains all over it from the fires... Then they let Gilligan do the tint job here in town. It looks really sloppy. Avoid dealership tint jobs with yours if it needs one. Theres a couple posts here about failed tint jobs so its an issue with the G60. It already has a polarizing design which BMW did NOT intend so you don't want bad tint to boot!
BMW and its design team had a real falling out over this. The guy who helped design the G60 left the company with a parting shot.. he wrote that a car should neither be beautiful nor ugly. And the G60 fits that bill perfectly! Its a more rugged look with the black grill and shadowline lights. It doesn't look like a luxury cruiser now and that bothers some fans. I prefer a sports sedan to look sporty so I LOVE it!
And I suspect you will too but a word of advice : take your watch off when you drive it! The glass scratches VERY easily!!! I put one right at eye level in my G30 helping someone with their seatbelt.. and my G60 has a little one from someone at the dealership using a knife to remove a sticker. I really stopped wearing a watch when I got into bimmers!
But good luck with your new ride and rest assured, you are gonna love it!!! Mine puts me in a positive mood EVERY time I get behind the wheel.. it turns a bs commute into a happy ride! The G60 is a complete good.

Thanks for the advice. I already have a tint shop i'm going to use. My issue here in Spain is that cars are not allowed to have any sort of tint on the driver/front passenger windows. So I do have some screens I can put up. The rear and back passenger windows I am debating 15% or 20%. I know they don't come with Privacy Glass in Spain. Even US Spec vehicles don't. I was debating PPF, but I don't want it to lose the shine over time like it did on my CC and LR4 that had it on the nose and mirror caps. Made it look like I had removed one of those car Bra's that were popular in the late 80's and 90's.

I just wish my wife was as excited as I am about getting a new car. I keep saying it's OUR new car. But she keeps referring to it as "It's YOUR stupid car. I'm not going to drive it." Claims it's too BIG for her tastes. (She drives a Range Rover for crying out loud!)

That's funny. My wife said the exact same thing to me when I was waiting for the car to arrive. Since I took delivery on March 21, 2024, she still hasn't driven it and really has no interest in it at all. Meanwhile, she drives a Mazda CX-9 7 passenger SUV.

I guess car people just don't understand non-car people. LOL

In her defense, She has been hit on several occasions. Including 2 rear endings by people not paying attention. She feels safer in a large SUV. In all truth her last LR3 saved her life when someone driving a Camry missed the fact she was stopped at a feeder light in Bothell, WA and thought it was an acceleration lane. Slammed right into the back of her SUV. The Camry was totaled. The LR3 was able to be repaired. I was at sea at the time and on a SATPHONE had to call my Son, the Insurance Company, the tow truck driver, and the hospital to make all kinds of arrangements before I was able to be put ashore on an island in the South Pacific and get a flight home 2 days later.

But you are right. I have always been a car person. She knows what she likes, but doesn't look at things like reviews, reliability, performance or anything like that. Just "Is it comfortable and is it safe". I do all the car shopping around, and then present her with options from what she has made known to me that she likes.

LMAO I somehow convinced my wife that exchanging *HER* Mini Cooper (that she absolutely loves even though acknowledges its shortcomings) for a 550e that *I* will be driving is a good thing. LOL

I had to bribe her with the X1 that she will now drive almost exclusively. That somehow worked.

Great summary, OP. I’d also say that there was a lot of gnashing of teeth about the user interfaces that I think was completely misplaced. Over time I’ve really become incredibly comfortable with the center console set up and layout - I rarely touch the screen at all as the iDrive wheel helps navigate most everything on the screen and the haptic buttons to switch between media settings, map and Home Screen are perfect for navigating the big areas of iDrive that I use most often, along with the button to activate the cameras/parking.

Same for me - I hardly touch the screen because the center console buttons and the iDrive wheel are so useful. The gestures are also nice when skipping through tracks I'm listening to and when using the two custom gestures I have assigned (one takes me to Android Auto, and the other takes me to my USB music stick).

Thanks and thats interesting that you both use the wheel as its vestigial like a tailbone.. I honestly haven't used mine! I'm so into the Buck Rogers display and its shortcuts that I forget its there. I find the inside of this car so aesthetically pleasing and functional.. Its like an old 60s space film with an immaculate and utilitarian cockpit devoid of clutter and mess. Or an autistic fantasy in that everything superfluous is GONE! I truly find it artful and with a lightbar color that pleases the eye (like Ocean), I really don't want to get out.. This is because the seat is the most comfortable I've ever slid into so I'd almost rather be in my car than in front of my TV.
And to properly understand women and their near universal disdain of our cars you must look into the recesses of our distant past.. A car is a tool and we LOVE tools because we were the hunters who needed them to bring home food so we could procreate with the women (who gathered and cooked and took care of the kids). Its all Darwinian! The primitive reward centers in our brain need these BMWs as they are forever linked with sex and therefore, ordinal position within society. Its all about simian, sexual politics! If you really want to piss off the ladies, name your BMW!!!

I’m female and my i5 M60 is Mach Five. I drive my car when I have no where to go, just to be in it. Then again, I am the breadwinner of the family. My husband does vacuuming and laundry. I do cook but that’s because I understand chemistry and am quite a good cook.

LOL, I was expecting Scrapula to chime in after that prior post.

If I didn't use the iDrive controller as much as I do, I'd probably spend more time wiping finger prints off the screen that driving the car! I can't stand a dirty screen.

Speaking of the screen, has anyone seen those protection films they make for the BMW screens? Has anyone tried them yet? I'm curious.

I did see that XPEL made one for it, and there seem to be a myriad of aftermarket ones as well.

Interesting - I don’t find it vestigial at all - how are you finding music, looking through podcasts etc? I use shortcuts, voice commands for car settings, but not so much for media.

I know we’ll likely bid farewell to the wheel in the Neue Klasse cars, but we’re not quite there yet ;-)

Lol. I did too. Scrapula is one of the exceptions. She is definitely a Car Girl. However....I do remember her saying in the past that since she is a Beta Tester, every time she ends up having to delete the electronic key or something like that, her hubby gets all pissed off because he has to go in and re-set it up for her.

I am surprised at times at my wife because she grew up in a Car guy household. My wife's grandfather and uncle were mechanics owned a garage and body shop in Wichita, KS, and her first car was a 1965 Mustang she bought and helped them re-build for her. Her Dad was a Biker, and he loved the fact she was marrying a Military man who knew how to "Man up and Fix Things". Yet she knows almost nothing about cars. Won't read a manual because it's boring, so she lets me do it and teach her.

Me too - I keep a bunch of microfibers in the trunk and always at least one in the center console. Instead of a bottle of cleaner, I now use the disposable cleaner wipes instead (for the smaller needs, like dash or screens).

These are the ones I use: https://www.chemicalguys.com/product...cleaning-wipes

So far, so good. They have a lot of liquid in them, re-seal tightly and they are safe for all surfaces.

Actually, my husband gets pissed off because he has to redo his own digital key. I do my own.

I’m female and my i5 M60 is Mach Five.
Nice one! I remember Speed Racer in syndication, not the silly plots which were forgettable, but I always liked the steering wheel on the Mach 5 with the buttons, that’s the main thing I remember. I waited a long, long time for cars to finally have buttons on the steering wheel.

I was a huge Speed Racer fan when I was a kid. I actually thought about getting a white i5 with a Speed Racer wrap. But, I decided to be an adult.
