Tips to prevent battery depletion (long holiday)
Hello all. Going away for about 3 weeks and wanted to know what are the best tips / practices to prevent any battery depletion on the i5?
Got a UK model and for some bizarre reason there is no Deep Sleep mode. Do I need to leave the car plugged in for the duration while I'm away? It's at 83% currently. |

I left mine unplugged for about 2 weeks and I don’t think the charge went down by a significant amount. Maybe 1-3%? Don’t recall the exact number but it wasn’t much.

I’ve left my car at the airport for 1-2wks with barely any loss in SOC - there should be minimal drains on the battery. One thing to look out for is if you have a regularly scheduled preconditioning routine - the car will continue to heat or cool that time each day while you’re away that will of course drain the battery a bit. I think long term storage recommends 50% SOC or less, but that’s for months not weeks.

I have done the same, gone for 2 weeks and left it in the garage unplugged and it was near the same when I got back.

During my trip, I checked on the car with the app, and noticed that the SOC had reduced by a percentage or two after about a week. I then realized that I forgot to turn off the preconditioning I have set up automatically. I then turned that off using the app and after that the car held it's charge the entire time. I suspect that it would not have lost any charge during the whole time I was away if I had remembered to turn off the preconditioning before I left home.
