Coding auto start/stop off?
Been thinking of ordering a new 2025 540i and trading in my 2023 540i.
Just curious if anyone has figured out or if there is a way to code the Auto start/stop to stay off before I make the move.

I don't think coding is possible anymore in iDrive 8.5 due to enhanced security by BMW.

Is there anyway to disable it? Kinda like spot individual but setting everything in comfort?

I think it gets disabled when the car is in Sport drive mode. Maybe someone with that car can confirm for you.

There are various database modules, all of which use to reside 'onboard' the vehicle in previous generations. Now, BMW has offloaded some of these security checks to the cloud, and there's no good way to replicate these handshakes between integrated systems. Some people were successful at making some local changes, but I think it would require you to reapply the change after each software update? Look around, for more detailed information if this is something that interests you. |

I don't even notice stop/start anymore. Why do you want to disable it? I have had a number of cars with it. Never posed a problem. With modern cars, it's barely noticeable.

The On/Off feature is present in many cars as a way to increase MPG and to meet CAFE requirements.
I have a '24 G60 540i and live in Texas where this time of year it is constantly over 100. It doesn't seem that the engine turns off for that long a period of time that the change in temperature of the AC is very noticeable, What I have noticed is when I start the car after the engine has been shut off, the start is barely perceitpible. When the on-off feature is engaged when the engine has warmed up nd the car restarts, you can feel a bit of vibration. I have wondered about why this occurs. My car has a mild hybrid system and both a 12 and 48 volt battery, the latter of which is part of the mild hybrid system. Iniitial start, I have read, is done from the 12 V battery and the on-off feature uses the 48 V battery. I have thought that the warm engine may require a bit more power because of ring expansion in the cylinders but that is purely a guess. FWIW, I have always turned this feature off in my prior BMW's but don't have the option here except to use Sport mode. I don't find it terribly bothersome. |

You use to be able to disable ASS with bimmercode with OBD device on G30 cars. One of the OTA updates took away this capability. I contacted Bimmercode about programming the G60 cars, they stated that BMW does not give access to 3rd party programs using OBD devices. BMW wants to control everything now and You have to suck it up. Yea, ASS stops the AC compressor so it gets damn hot in car while stopped, not to mention a recall of older cars from starter motors catching fire. Wonder how that happens?? Car Manufacturers make their $$ from part sales, not car sales, so I would think starter motors will be the new cash cow.
Sport Mode is the only alternative. Last edited by handinpalm; 08-15-2024 at 09:26 AM.. |

the auto start stop got a lot better in the g60 540 versus the g30 540, its almost seamless. you can always drive it in sport and configure the comfort, sport, sport+ etc for each category. sport disables the auto start/stop
