Alignment after pothole/dented 21"wheel
So,
On turnpike I hit a pothole doin 80ish, found out I dented front and rear left wheels in my newish 24 i5 m60. Had wheel and tire ins. Bend them back and balanced. Issue is my red stripe on steering wheel is about 2 degrees to the left when going straight. My question is, with 4 wheel steering, do you need to have a BMW dealer do it, or does a regular place(that does most my work on previous BMW’s) that does 4wheel alignment be ok to get this fixed? Car drives straight and feels normal aside from the steering wheel being just a hair to the left. Thanks in advance

I'd be a bit hesitant with integral active steering, to allow my local shop to validate its alignment. I mean, sure they can look at the standard camber, caster, and toe. They can look at the wheel's relative alignment, and if they're parallel to each other and perpendicular to the ground (which is what's done in a standard 4-wheel alignment) What they can't do is ensure that the dynamic rear wheel steering is now projecting at the appropriate trajectory through the variable steering angles of the vehicle. This typically requires special software and tools, from my understanding. Considering what you struck was impactful enough to bend metal, personally, I'd want it looked at for peace of mind. |

Agreed with Todd here, I’d ask a BMW service center.

Yeah I’ll bite the bullet and let them do it considering the complex from and rear steering. Thanks all for the comments
